elcome back to Northwood Park this afternoon, and we are pleased to see our supporters new and old, and also welcome all connected with Fleet Town F.C.; we trust they enjoy their stays with us and have a safe journey home later.

As you may be aware, this fixture has been brought forward from a midweek date in November, as both clubs managed to go out of the F.A. Trophy at the first hurdle three weeks ago. Like the Woods, Fleet have struggled to get going so far this season, with just a couple of wins so far, and in midweek at Ashford Town they suffered one of the heaviest defeats in the club’s history. However, last Saturday they came out on top against Marlow – who were winners here at Chestnut Avenue just a month ago… However, after a difficult run since early September, Simon Lane’s young side have got a little back on track lately, with seven points and just one goal conceded from three Evo-Stik League South outings. A good scoreless draw at Bedford Town was followed by a decent 3-0 victory against Aylesbury United last Saturday, subsequent to which was a 3-1 midweek win at Middlesex rivals Hanwell Town. In the latter game, after a poor start, the Woods came back strongly after the break to score three times, through Evans Kouassi, Mahlondo Martin and Jermaine Osei – making it six goals in four Northwood starts for the young striker! There is no fixture this upcoming midweek, and the Woods are back at Northwood Park again next Saturday, 28th October, when we take on Kempston Rovers – kick-off as usual at three o’clock. Many thanks for your support, and we hope to see you here again very soon!

underway in this very shortly. If anyone can spare any time in helping put this together, please let me know.

I can only start by saying a massive ‘thank you’ to everyone who came to the club last Saturday on “Pete Barry Day”. It was truly humbling to have so many of my Dad’s friends and family come along and celebrate his life.

Up the Woods!

Enjoy the game today.

Ian

I’ve had so many messages since from people saying how much they enjoyed the day and of course, how much my Dad would have been proud. Right from the food, cooked for the first time here by Lydia Gray, to the signed Chelsea shirt sent to me by Chelsea FC, myself and my family thank you all and hopefully we can make this an annual event. Football-wise, the day couldn’t have gone better, either, with us winning comfortably 3-0 and the Pride of London (!!??) 4-2. Writing these notes just after our win at Hanwell has made things a little brighter, and hopefully today we can make it three wins in a week....... Last Saturday we raised £462.00 to go towards our Garden of Thought and work should be

G

ood afternoon and welcome to Northwood Park for today’s rearranged visit of Fleet Town.

We come into today’s game in good form, on a run of three league games unbeaten and two wins in the last seven days. Strangely, I don’t feel we are playing hugely better than during our poor run in September. The main differences with a few players back are that we are converting more chances (still too many missed) and better solidity at various times in the game. Having stabilized the goalkeeper position at the moment has been a big help; that position was a big problem for us during that poor run. Hopefully those dark days are behind us, and I sense more confidence coming back into the squad. We have a few guys returning after injuries and they are therefore working hard to

4

Northwood v Fleet Town

attain the same excellent fitness levels as the rest of the squad. The game against Aylesbury United last weekend here was very important for us as hopefully a watershed moment. I thought they played very well for 20 minutes but we worked things out tactically and then threatened with the goals – thanks to Jermaine Osei’s excellent hat-trick. He is a great lad and I was delighted to finally get him here after trying during the summer to land his signature. I am working towards extending his stay here, which I think he is keen to do, given he’s enjoying his football again. Tuesday evening’s match at Hanwell Town was also very satisfying given I wasn’t happy at all at half-time. I had a few choice words and some changes for the team at the interval, as I felt we didn’t play with our usual energy and another individual error cost us. Having said that, the response in the second half

was superb and we totally controlled proceedings with three more good goals – which could actually have been a few more. The squad believes that one day when everything clicks we are going to convert the seven or eight good chances we are creating and give someone a real hammering. That won’t just happen, however – it will take maximum effort on the part of everyone involved. Enjoy the game today. Up the Woods!

WELCOME TO

FLEET TOWN

F

leet Town FC was officially formed in 1890, making it the oldest sports club in the town. The centenary was celebrated in 1990 with a special Scroll being presented by the Football Association to the club, together with a commemorative plaque from the Hampshire FA.

In 1923 Lord Calthorpe of Elvetham Hall made available the site of the present ground in Crookham Road, and the club moved to its new home playing their first match on 3rd March 1923. The ground was subsequently bequeathed to the District Council and later the Fleet Town Council, with the proviso that it would continue to be for the use of the Town’s football club. In 1953 floodlights were installed for the first time. The club entered the Hampshire League in 1961. From then on Fleet Town FC gradually moved through the Divisions, eventually moving into the Wessex League for the 1989/90 season. After six years of steady progress, the club gained promotion to the Southern League as Wessex League champions. In 1999/00, its fifth season in the Dr Martens Southern League, the club finished bottom and returned to the Wessex League. Within a few seasons the club returned to the Southern League, winning promotion under player/manager Steve Beeks. Playing in the Ryman League the 2005/06 season began with a new management team

6

Northwood v Fleet Town

of ex-England international Andy Sinton assisted by Steve Mellor. In their second season together this new team saw their side top the table at Christmas before they finally finished in 5th place. In a pulsating play-off semi-final they lost 2-1 to Tooting & Mitcham, with the London side scoring twice in added-on time. The team also reached the final of the Hampshire County Cup, losing 2-1 to Aldershot, the game played at AFC Bournemouth. For season 2007-08 the club were moved by the FA to the BGB Southern League, South & West Division, and again had a record breaking season. Right up until the last few games they were in with a chance of automatic promotion but eventually had to accept 2nd spot behind Farnborough. This however was their highest ever non-league finish and again played in front of record crowds. It was heartbreak in the play-offs though as the team again lost in the semi-final, this time to an injury time penalty that gave Uxbridge a 2-1 victory. Fleet also went their furthest in the FA Cup before losing 2-1 at Havant & Waterlooville in the 3rd Qualifying Round. The following season saw the club return to the Ryman League, South Division. Andy Sinton’s side again broke more records as the team won four cups, including the Hampshire Senior Cup when over 1,200 witnessed victory over VTFC

at St Marys Stadium, Southampton, to send the cup to Fleet for the first time. In addition the team also won the Russell Cotes Cup, Aldershot Senior and North Hants cups. The FA Cup run again went to the 3rd Qualifying Round before losing 5-2 in a bruising encounter at AFC Totton. May 2010 brought major changes at the club with Chairman Graham Smith stepping down and this was shortly followed by manager Andy Sinton resigning to join AFC Telford United. For the new season Steve Mellor stepped into the Manager’s shoes. A largely new Blues side finished a credible 13th. Season 2011-12 saw Fleet Town back in the Southern League after a three year absence. However results were poor and after a run of defeats and exiting the major cup competitions Mellor left in November 2011 to be replaced by Craig Davis as player/manager. Despite some improved displays, the Blues faced relegation after ending the season in 21st spot. However, due to circumstances elsewhere in the football pyramid Fleet Town gained an FA reprieve and retained their place as a Southern League club, to play a 2nd season in the Division One Central. In July 2012 Steve Cantle became Chairman and with Davis bringing in a new back-room staff, and a host of new players, the club enjoyed an improved Southern League season, finishing with four teams behind them, in 18th spot. Following the end of the season Fleet Town were again moved, this time within the Southern League to the Div One South & West. After several difficult seasons the 2015/16 season saw Fleet moved back to the Division One Central, and they enjoyed two successful seasons with league status retained and the winning of the Aldershot Senior Cup and the North Hants Senior Cup in 2017. The club however suffered the devastating loss of Chairman Steve Cantle who died just before Christmas and manager Davis moved on in March. The new season, Fleet’s 16th consecutive at this level, brings new challenges with the club looking for stability and progress under the new management team of Steve Dormer and Andy Hunt.

NORTHWOOD AYLESBURY UTD.

3 0

SATURDAY 21ST OCTOBER 2017 EVO-STIK LEAGUE SOUTH CHESTNUT AVENUE

The Woods finally returned to winning form with their first victory since the August Bank Holiday Monday as they swept aside Aylesbury United thanks to a superb hat-trick from striker Jermaine Osei. The swirling windy conditions appeared to have little impact on the game which began at a good pace with Evans Kouassi cutting in across Ryan Kinnane and seeing his strike deflected just wide of the near post by defender Jake Bewley, writes Alan Evans. The Ducks had the wind behind them and a good run from Ben Seaton saw him get past Chingoka to shoot for goal but it was always travelling too high to threaten. Then, from a corner, it was met by a typical firm header from Alex Collard but straight at Brendan Hazlett in goal. After 18 minutes Kouassi got some joy down the right once again and his centre had Newman stretching to connect but he was unable to get any power on his flick. Two minutes later Kouassi turned provider again with a ball to Osei and his crisp strike flew only just wide of the target. The pressure continued as Newman played a neat ball inside for George Robinson to let fly with a right-foot strike that crept just over the bar and the Woods were soon rewarded with the opening goal a minute later. It was Tayshan Hayden-Smith who produced a well-flighted ball into the box and Osei met it with a neat glancing header that flew past goalkeeper Jack Sillitoe and inside the far post. Three minutes later Northwood should have doubled their lead as Kouassi seized on a mistake in midfield to roll in Newman and his shot beat Sillitoe but came back off the post. Aylesbury responded well though and enjoyed their best spell soon after this. Young striker Tyriq Hunte had a shot deflected over before a deep cross from Bewley was headed down by Jack Wood to Couch and his strike was well saved by Hazlett. Soon after, a long ball, saw Hobbs caught out by the wind and bounce which allowed Hunte in on goal. He chipped Hazlett well enough but his shot dropped wide of the target. Then Wood robbed Robinson of the ball and moved into the area only to be halted in his tracks as the Woods defender recovered the ball. From the resulting corner Wood was given a free header but the ball flew well over. The first-half finished just as Osei turned provider with a ball through to Kouassi but Sillitoe was alert to the danger and was out to thwart the danger. A couple of minutes after the restart a quick counter-attack gave the Ducks another chance with Hunte getting past Hayden-Smith on the edge of the box to fire in a shot but the Woods ‘keeper was on fine form and saved well once again. The Woods began to play again though and Hayden-Smith saw an effort drift only just wide before a long-range strike from Buckley was an easy take for the visitors ‘keeper. But he could do nothing on 55 minutes as Robinson seized on a loose ball to thread a good pass through to Osei who rode a challenge from Kinnane and then slotted past Sillitoe for his second goal. After Kouassi had only found the side-netting again with a shot, Couch hit a crisp shot that Hazlett pushed wide and after that the fight appeared to go out of the visitors. After 65 minutes a cut back from Kouassi found Osei who poked a shot through defenders that had Sillitoe scrambling across and doing well to keep it out with the loose ball cleared as substitute Mahlondo Martin closed in. It was on 71 minutes that the Woods wrapped up the victory as Osei impressed again with his cool finishing, racing through the middle and getting past the challenge of Ollie Hogg to steer a shot inside the post once again and complete an excellent hat-trick. The Woods were happy to defend their lead from then but Aylesbury did show good spirit to battle on to the end with substitute Lea Coulter forcing Hazlett into a save low down while a late cross cum shot from Wood also saw the Woods ‘keeper touch the ball over the crossbar to be safe.

CLUB MATTERS SECRETARY

ALAN EVANS Myles has the X-Factor

Myles Stephenson scored nine goals for the Woods last season in 42 matches and five in another 42 matches in the previous campaign; not a great return for a striker but none as important as the one that earned Northwood a 1-0 FA Cup replay victory at Harrow Borough in 2015. Like most of the Northwood squad from last season, Myles didn’t return to the club in the summer but unlike the others, there seemed to be no sign of which club he was now playing for and we now know the answer – he’s too busy playing his part of one of ITV’s top shows! As part of the musical combo Rak-Su, Myles became the last of three groups that went through to the forthcoming live shows in last Sunday’s result shows and will now be part of

12

Northwood v Fleet Town

mogul Simon Cowell’s Team of three up against The Cutkelvins and Irish brothers Sean and Connor Price. The current betting shows that Rak-Su are the best of those three, with their odds to win X-Factor at just 5/1. Only two of the girls, who are under Sharon Osborne’s wing, are shorter in price. With last week’s shows being filmed in the South of France Myles was actually jokingly shown flirting with superstar Cheryl (Tweedy/ Cole/Fernandez-Versini etc.) – well, someone has to, I guess. Anyway, that’s all I know; I’m not a fan of the show but if you are you can enjoy it all the more now! We wish Myles every success and hope he goes all the way, makes his fortune and comes back to add to almost 100 appearances by investing in the club.

Cam Lyttle Injury

Cameron Lyttle appeared in several of our pre-season games but the youngster is yet to make his first team debut so has been loaned out to get game time alongside Jamie Doolan, James Gurteen and Jay Thorne at Spartan South Midlands League side Rayners Lane. While the Woods were playing at Bedford Town a couple of weeks ago, coincidentally the Lane were just a few hundred yards away playing away at Bedford FC. Cam was part of that side but unfortunately he was badly injured, breaking his leg. As you can see from the photo with the x-rays in the hospital he is in better spirits now but

there is a long road ahead for him and everyone at the club wishes him a speedy and successful recovery.

Programme goes Digital ONLY

You should be aware by now that if you are reading these notes in the programme, you are almost certainly reading it on your phone, tablet or on a PC screen as from the new season we are no longer producing a paper version (apart from the one-off for the Aylesbury United game last week). The League changed their rules this season to state that the need to produce a programme for each match no longer had to be a printed version and for lots of reasons, we made the decision to end it. It is a change that will be strange for both Ken Green and myself as between us we have produced virtually every printed Northwood programme since Ken first started them in the 1970s. The quality of the programme should remain much the same though and to download it will now be free so savings all round. It also makes it more available to everyone. We have already had a massive increase in downloads of people reading the programme.

On the other injuries front, Pat Adamson is about a week away from recovering from his hamstring problem, while goalkeeper Harry Voss is back in light training following his unlucky knee injury suffered in training and we will need to make a decision as to whether to request an extension to a loan arrangement that ends in a couple of weeks’ time.

Season Ticket Offer

Once again the club have made our cut-price season ticket available to all supporters for the new season. For only £40.00 you can gain access to all of the remaining League matches being played by the first-team this season, so less than £2.00 per match. There are application forms available in the clubhouse this week and if you fill it out and pass the money to us, you will get entry for today’s League fixture as part of the package. Alternatively you can order it direct by card at your leisure via the website. It will remain on offer for the next couple of months as it continues to provide value for money for some time. The price also includes admission to each of our Under 18s midweek youth league matches too. There are other benefits of the Season Ticket too. It gives you access to the Clubhouse at any time and also allows you to book it for private functions should you wish. There are a few remaining Season Tickets available for collection from me this afternoon.

You can either download it in a format that is easy to read or to print it out yourself at home should that be your preference. We hope you will embrace the change and enjoy it. However, we are aware that some people would prefer it to remain a printed edition and indeed, we have even received an offer from one of our loyal and regular supporters to cover the losses that the club makes when producing a printed version. So, we will consider it further over the rest of the season but please let us know what you think, either in person at a game or by email to the club email address [email protected]

CLUB MATTERS them draw and almost beat Aldershot Town, who had previously won every league game. They were 1-0 up thanks to a Josh Thomas goal until the closing stages when the Shots snatched a late draw. They were due to be away to leaders Camberley Town on Thursday night, and that would have been really tough considering the Surrey side have also battled through to the First Round proper of the FA Youth Cup where they play away at Lewes next week. The Woods are next scheduled to play here at Northwood Park on Thursday 9th November, when they take on Bedfont Sports in the Second Round of the Middlesex Senior Youth Cup. Kick-off is at 7.45pm and your support would be much appreciated.

play Wembley in a Spartan South Midlands League fixture. It’s a 3.00pm kick-off and if you can’t make it to the Woods’ away game at Rushden & Diamonds that day, then perhaps you can come down to the club and enjoy that one. Admission is half price for all Northwood Season Ticket holders.

Player Sponsors

As the season is still fairly new, why not work out who your favourite Northwood player is and then choose to sponsor them. Elsewhere in today’s programme you can see the full squad and only a handful of players are already sponsored. It would be great to get the page filled up as early as possible this season.

After a glut of early home games, we haven’t seen much of London Tigers at Northwood Park in recent weeks and they are also not due back here until Saturday 18th November when they

he Woods were tripped up and out of the Senior Cup at the first hurdle with a comprehensive Tdefeat at Combined Counties League strugglers AFC Hayes, writes Alan Evans. Though missing a number of players and only having two fit players on the bench, Simon Lane fielded a strong line-up in the hope of notching their first win in over seven weeks. The home side had made a similar start to their campaign as the Woods, though a division lower and fielded two ex-Northwood players in skipper Dan McDonnell and defender Michael Peacock, on the comeback from injury so dual-registered from Beaconsfield Town. And the Woods dominated proceedings pretty much from the start with Lewis Ochoa pulling the strings in midfield and in the very first minute he won the ball before laying in Evans Kouassi who slid a shot across the face of goal and just wide of the far post. The Brook rallied briefly with a shot from Harry Carter being saved at the near post by Brendan Hazlett while at the other end, Leo Pedro also drilled an effort straight at home goalkeeper Cameron Kennedy. After 12 minutes Kouassi was put in on goal again, this time by Tayshan Hayden-Smith and on this occasion he went for the near post but was wide again. Four minutes later Kouassi combined with Pedro to play the ball across to Arash Abdollahi and his strike found only the side-netting. The Woods got even nearer soon after when a good ball from Pedro found Kouassi and his flashing shot flew just inches wide of the far upright once more. They should certainly have taken the lead on 24 minutes when Kouassi dribbled his way in from the right to drill the ball across the six-yard box and Abdollahi met it but somehow lifted the ball over the bar under pressure from Kennedy diving at his feet. If Kouassi had been able to hit the target, Northwood would have been away and gone but he fired well wide on 26 minutes and then shot waywardly again from a Pedro cross ten minutes later as AFC Hayes gradually started to make some impression. But it was still a shock just seconds before the break when Mourad Jarraz ran at and beat an isolated Tommy Boxer and crossed for Lusungu Ndoui to neatly flick the ball home at the near post. Immediately after the break Jarraz did it again with a good run down the left and an accurate cross to the far post where Bradley Hand skilfully volleyed the Brook into a 2-0 lead and the Woods were left shell-shocked. So much so, they hardly threatened again. Apart from a volley over the bar by substitute Kojo Gyimah and Abdollahi having an effort saved by Kennedy, it was the home side who had the best of the half. Jarraz went close himself with another good run and strike that was well saved by Hazlett who also made a very good save to push round a powerful shot from Kamil Kharas. Ochoa did have a late effort saved by Kennedy but in the final minute of the match, the home side really put a gloss on the result as Hand showed great composure to create space and tuck away a shot inside the post. AFC Hayes: Cameron Kennedy, Danny Barham (James Charles 64m), Charlie Howes, Kamil Kharas, Michael Peacock, Daniel McDonnell, Spencer Maw (Isaac Olaleye 74m), Harry Carter (Reece Fosh 29m), Mourad Jarraz, Bradley Hand, Lusungu Ndoui Northwood: Brendan Hazlett, Isaac Olorunfemi, George Robinson, Brad Hewitt, Tommy Boxer, Declan Nche (Wilson Chingoka 63m), Lewis Ochoa, Tayshan Hayden-Smith, Leo Pedro (Kojo Gyimah 61m), Evans Kouassi, Arash Abdollahi. www.northwoodfc.com

Alan Evans looks back at Northwood events of a decade ago PHOTOS by PAUL EVANS

T

oday we continue with our popular feature where we look back to events here at Northwood Park from exactly a decade ago. This means our first season back at Step 4 of non-League following the firstever relegation in the senior club’s history as we succumbed to the drop in our second season of Southern Premier Division football having been transferred across following two years of Isthmian Premier competition.

There had been yet another surprise from the FA during the summer. We had expected to remain in the Southern League with relegation to play alongside the likes of Hillingdon Borough and Brook House who were both in the then South & West Division of the Southern but no, the FA had other ideas once again and

Ilford but they also bowed out of the League Cup with a poor defeat at Walton Casuals before crashing 5-3 at lowly Witham Town in the League. So the Woods were still fifth from bottom when they had a chance to bounce back with a midweek home game against midtable side Tilbury where another win would be the fourth at home in succession. A browse through the programme for that match picks up a few interesting things from the Ten Years After column – i.e. twenty years ago now – which advised that the debut of Woods favourite Dave Sargent came in a 2-0 away defeat at Egham Town which coincided with the last ever game for Northwood of exQPR and Wales defender Gavin Maguire who was coming to the end of his career having also started with the Woods in the late 1970s. Just a week or so later, Manager Steve Emmanuel chose to leave the Woods to take over as the new Manager of Chesham United: He would last four months. Colin Payne went with a very young side against The Dockers with Ryan Tackley starting his first game of the season in place of the injured Danny Murphy while Billy Fishenden replaced Adam Thomson in goal. Abdul Yoki and Danny Hart started in preference to Dean Clark and Kyle Matthews and the average age of the starting eleven was just twenty.

we found ourselves back in the arms of the Isthmian League and in Division One North with many trips round the M25 and into Essex! Our tenants Wealdstone had also been moved and started their third and final season sharing Northwood Park with us in the Isthmian Premier where we would have loved to have stayed a couple of years earlier. After a slow start to the season, things had begun to pick up with back-to-back home wins over promotion favourites Dartford and then

Northwood v Fleet Town

TEN YEARS AFTER Tilbury had only lost one league game all season but the Woods dominated for much of the early stages and up to half-time, going close through Adrian Abramian, Tackley whose 35-yarder came back off a post and Elliott Buchanan who was impressing once again.

to Sittingbourne who were riding high in the South Division of the Isthmian League. Colin Payne had drafted in a new signing in goal with Mitch Swain coming in on loan from Wealdstone and with Bradley Hewitt also back from injury the defence had a more solid look to it.

There was more attacking pressure after the break with Simeon Howell missing a couple of glorious opportunities and it was completely against the run of play that Tilbury took the lead as Kurt Smith knocked in a far post corner. The Woods took a while to recover but were then given a real lifeline as visiting defender Danny Smith chipped his own goalkeeper for a net own-goal. Again Northwood surged forward, sub Jermaine Hamilton had a shot saved, Yoki headed a good

And they made the ideal start with just three minutes on the clock. Dean Clark floated in a free-kick which was flicked on by Hewitt and it was Jazz Rose who ghosted in at the far post to head home his first goal in Northwood colours. Sittingbourne had little to offer in the first-half, lost their main striker to a hamstring injury and then, just before half-time, the Woods notched a second goal. Jerome Hall, back from injury, won a free-kick which was deflected for a corner and from that Ryan Tackley found Hewitt at the far post and he nodded it home. Two goals to the good, Swain made a couple of vital saves at the right time during the second period and would have been delighted to have kept a clean sheet on his debut. chance wide and Matthew did the same as time was running out. It was the first minute of stoppage-time that the Woods regained the lead. Jazz Rose played a good ball to Buchanan and then raced on into the box to receive a return. It was an ideal distraction for the young striker who found enough space to rifle a shot across the ‘keeper and in at the far post. Yet it ended 2-2 as the Dockers hit back straight away with Smith bagging his second of the game and it was two points dropped for Northwood.

The home ‘keeper was also in fine form and kept out a couple of good efforts from Abdul Yoki but by the end the Woods were delighted to have made it into the next round where they faced another tough away tie at AFC Hornchurch. Before that there were a couple of League fixtures scheduled and we will have more from those plus the Trophy tie in the Ten Years After article in our matchday programme next weekend.

At the weekend it was time to start the new FA Trophy campaign and the Woods travelled away www.northwoodfc.com

EVO-STIK LEAGUE, SOUTH

ROUND-UP

There were plenty of goals in the midweek East Division action, with today’s visitors Fleet Town suffering one of their worst-ever defeats, 10-0 at Ashford Town. James Cottee and Jack Beadle had already put the Ash Trees 2-0 up when Fleet were reduced to ten-men. It was 5-0 at the break, with Alex Fisher converting the penalty after the red card and Dan Fleming netting twice. And there were a further five in the second, with Cottee going on to complete his hat-trick and Max Webb, Jabir Laraba and Tommy Brunton adding the others.

The wheels certainly seem to have come off at Hartley Wintney, who led the table with Moneyfields for most of the season. However, they were thumped 6-1 at home by Hayes & Yeading United who, in contrast, are finding their form now after a slow start. Little of what was to come was evident in the first half as Andrew Ofosu’s 24th minute opener for the visitors was cancelled out by Dean Stow`s penalty five minutes later. Manny Duku gave the visitors an interval lead with a 39th minute second, and he went on to complete his hat-trick after the break, Ofosu netted a second and Danny Hutchins sandwiched the other.

AFC Rushden & Diamonds moved back up to fifth in the table after going nap at Hayden Road in front of 355 against Barton Rovers. It was virtually all over bar the shouting at half-time after Diamonds led 3-0 with goals from Ben Farrell after 11 minutes, Liam Dolman 11 minutes later and Farrell again two minutes after that. Nabil Shariff added a fourth in the 77th minute and a Jack Keating own goal eight minutes from time ended a bad night for Rovers. Bedford Town earned local bragging rights after a 5-1 hammering of neighbours Kempston Rovers in front of 311 at the New Eyrie. Three goals in six minutes midway through the first half from Jemal McKenzie-Lowe, Bradley Woods-Garness and Ashton Grant took the Eagles away. Dylan Gittens added a fourth with 13 minutes to go and, after Luke Heneghan had netted an 82nd minute consolation for the Walnut Boys, David Manu made it a nap had for Bedford five minutes later. Leaders Moneyfields won 2-0 at home to Egham Town, and stretched their lead at the top to seven points. Joe Briggs after 11 minutes and Conor Bailey 10 minutes after the break were the Moneys on target. Marlow won the derby at home to Thame United by the same scoreline, taking an early 2nd minute lead through Jordan Brown. An Ellis Hercules own goal doubled Marlow`s advantage nine minutes later and then Allen Bossman made it 3-0 with still only 18 minutes gone on the clock. Thame managed to stem the flow and reduced the arrears six minutes after the break through Lynton Goss. www.northwoodfc.com
