ABOUT THE VICE PRESIDENT OF FINANCE – REPORT THE BUSINESS As a key member of the leadership team reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the Vice President of Finance will lead the development and implementation of a high-performance finance and administration function. Work closely with the CEO, the Vice-President of Marketing and Business Development and the Vice President of Operations to set overall organizational policies, priorities and structure to outline and demonstrate corporate culture and corporate focus. The Vice President of Finance and leadership team will analyze problematic occurrences and provide solutions to ensure company sustainability and growth, and participate in meetings with the team regarding market and/or supply opportunities. The Vice President of Finance will support and foster First Nation partnerships providing clear & concise financial information to their stakeholders. The Vice President of Finance will participate in occasional marketing trips to maintain relationship connections with the customer base and monitor the pulse of the markets. • • • • • • • • • • • • • •

Work closely with the leadership team to set overall organizational policies, priorities, structure and lead the Administration team Accountable for the company’s administrative, financial, and risk management operations Develop financial and tax strategies Manage capital request and budgeting processes Manage the accounting, human resources, investor relations, legal, and tax departments Oversee the transaction processing systems Oversee employee benefit plans, with emphasis on maximizing a cost-effective benefits package Supervise acquisition due diligence and negotiate acquisitions Oversee the issuance of financial information (Internal/External/Clients etc.) Monitor any legal issues involving the company, and/or affecting the industry Ensure record keeping meets the requirements of auditors and government agencies Ensure that the company complies with all legal and regulatory requirements Maintain banking relationships Create and monitor reliable control systems

KEY LEADERSHIP ACCOUNTABILITIES Responsibility 1: Financial & Performance Management • • • • • • • • •

Conduct regular reviews of the organization’s performance against operational objectives, and monitor financial performance to ensure adherence with established KPI’s and performance against plans. Approve monthly, yearly and ad hoc financial statements and reports provided to the CEO. Oversee the management and reporting of all revenues from A&A Trading Group of Companies. Develop and monitor the annual budget including forecasting revenues and expenses, and analyzing variances. Ensure compliance with recognized accounting principles, policies, procedures, and guidelines. Act as a trusted advisor to the CEO with respect to financial issues and the interpretation of financial reports. Evaluate and lead ongoing improvements and enhancements to the accounting systems, processes, and internal controls of the organization. Review finance and accounting policies and procedures annually. Recommend changes and facilitate the development or amendments required for review and approval by the CEO. Lead the year-end audit process including the review and/or preparation of working papers, schedules, analyses and other required documentation.

Responsibility 2: Strategic & Operational Planning and Implementation • •

Develop the structure and policy and process framework for the financial, accounting, capital projects planning and implementation, information technology, procurement, legal, internal control and administrative functions. Participate in and actively contribute to the organization’s strategic plan and annual operational plans by openly sharing ideas, information and concerns regarding the organization’s operations, financial situation, business trends and potential opportunities. Support the organization in implementing the strategic and operational plans by communicating corporate goals to employees and providing financial measures of the organization’s progress in achieving the goals outlined in those plans. Analyze various organizational initiatives to support all units. Develop and implement an IT strategy to support the corporate office and business units. Work closely with other functions of the organization to coordinate strategies, processes and outputs and ensure the achievement of the organization’s goals. Develop and implement operational plans for the finance, procurement, information technology, security and administration functions including defined objectives and performance targets, human resource and other resource requirements and specific achievement deadlines.

Responsibility 3: Human Resources Management • • •

Lead, support, coach and encourage all staff; develop and maintain open communication and a shared teamwork approach to the completion of all assignments within the organization. Communicate activities and tasks, work deadlines, new information, changes and work priorities to all staff within this portfolio. Ensure staff training and development in current and updated policies, procedures, methods and systems so that they can effectively manage their responsibilities. Ensure performance objectives and training/professional development plans for direct report and indirect reports follow the overall strategic direction of the organization. Develop a long-term human resource plan to ensure qualified and motivated staff are attracted to the organization and are retained to meet the current and future needs of the organization.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE •

A professional accounting designation CPA, with a minimum of ten years senior management experience in a multifaceted business supporting the reporting/analysis, risk management, regulatory compliance and systems development and leadership of a growing organization are requirements of the position.



Experience functioning at both strategic and operational levels, possessing a collaborative leadership style with a proven track record of implementing structured processes and controls in a dynamic and changing environment including the ability to translate complex financial concepts into clear recommendations is key to this position.



Previous experience in the Forestry/Resources area an asset.
