About the Locala Community Nursery Nurses (CNNs): Locala CNNs work closely with our Health Visiting service, working with families and young people to promote the health of the whole community by helping them stay healthy and avoid illness. CNNs work with families with children under 5, offering help and advice on things such as their child’s growth and development, postnatal depression, common infections and skin problems in childhood, to name but a few.

Description of Role:

To assist the CNN to look after children of parents attending “Family Fitness” sessions, aged from 0 up to 1 years, 11 months – this might include: o Stimulating children under two years old o Assisting with the setup of sessional equipment o Ensuring that the correct paper work is completed before the sessions (Nursery Nurses would also do this) o ‘Chatting’ to parents on arrival and after sessions end o Ensuring that the area where the children are playing is safe and suitable

16 years and over (no upper age limit) Unable to administer any form of treatment and/or care to patients under any circumstances KAL building induction Various eLearning modules (see ‘Additional Useful Information’), ‘Play & Stimulation’ training – a competency checklist will need to be successfully completed after 4 weeks 4 – 6 weeks after start date Travel (43p per mile), car parking, public transport T-shirt & ID badge must be worn (provided)

Additional Useful Information: A variety of “Family Fitness” sessions are held in Kirklees Active Leisure buildings across Kirklees – the sessions run for 1 hour, but volunteers are required for an additional 30 minutes to help set up before and clear up after the session. Location, day and time of sessions will be discussed in detail during the informal interview. Volunteers are not responsible for the children in the session – parents will sign a consent form to accept full parental responsibility. The Locala volunteers and Nursery Nurses are there to offer a distraction to the babies to allow mum to complete an exercise session. During the first 4 weeks of placement volunteers will undergo training towards completion of a competency checklist – this must be successfully completed at four weeks to continue volunteering.

All our volunteers are required to complete the following eLearning modules during the first 6 weeks of volunteering: o Safeguarding Adults o Safeguarding Children o Fire Safety Awareness o Health & Safety Awareness o Infection Control o Dementia Awareness o PREVENT Locala will arrange for IT access to complete these modules. Kirklees Active Leisure will complete an induction on the first session in your allocated site.
