FROM THE HEAD OF THE PRIMARY SCHOOL

Nurture Seeds of Care “Successful people live well, laugh often and love much. They have filled a niche and accomplished tasks so as to leave the world better than they found it, while looking for the best in others and giving the best they have.” —RALPH WALDO EMERSON What can be more important than teaching our children a sense of caring and social responsibility? If we neglect to teach our children to be caring and compassionate, have we given them all they need to fullfil

their potential and achieve joy and satisfaction in their lives? Moral development must be nurtured at home and at school. A child’s sense of goodness is instilled through the encouragement of adults. We need to foster our children's sense of justice, compassion and social concern. Here are some ways you can promote moral developent in children: Help children understand the reason behind the rules. Discuss why one type

of behaviour is preferable to another. Match your response to conf lict situations to the children’s level of social development. Use children’s literature to show examples of caring. Model, encourage and reward acts of caring.
