Wetlands Contemporary
Artist Jacques Nimki launches our 2018 contemporary art and events programme at the newly opened Walthamstow Wetlands with Wetlands Florilegium, a series of detailed installations within the Engine House which examine our sense of place. Nimki works from within the urban landscape, using weeds to examine ideas that challenge our everyday perceptions of how we view our surroundings.
And as the days get longer, our parks in Leyton, Leytonstone, Chingford and Walthamstow play host to our much-loved free summer festivals — enjoy world-class artists and the best of local talent on your doorstep. 2018 also sees the launch of WAH17, the borough’s new arts and live music programme.

Supporting local talent
Creative Connections: Culture for All
We know that Waltham Forest has an incredible wealth of creative talent living and working right across our borough. If you are a local creative practitioner, run a creative business or work on arts & culture projects within the community we would love to hear from you.
In 2017 Waltham Forest was awarded £1.36 million from the Great Place Scheme supported by the National Lottery through Arts Council England and the Heritage Lottery Fund, to put arts, culture and heritage at the heart of our community over the next three years.
We can help nurture and support you through a range of opportunities; including grants to help you turn your ideas into reality, masterclasses to help you grow your creative practice or business and oneto-one guidance.
The funding will support a number of pilot projects aimed at supporting new culture led partnerships, developing a long term cultural vision and building new opportunities for shared learning.
Sign up to our Arts & Culture Network to be kept up-to-date with everything going on — just email

Artists and printmakers are producing an ‘art-based currency’ celebrating diverse local communities, which will be used to purchase local payday debt. The site will also be a meeting place of debate and will form part of a feature documentary The Bank Job that calls for a fairer economic system.
From the team behind Cheap Cuts Documentary Film Festival, Last Frame Club promises to bring independent films, debate and creativity to the borough. There will be screenings shining a light on current social issues, audience favourites and new releases; as well as workshops, led by well-known filmmakers. A multimedia project showcasing the creative community within Waltham Forest. Local photographer Carmel King has been documenting artists, designers and makers in their workshops and studios — look out for the images displayed across the borough.
