Washington County’s unemployment rate has decreased 0.4 percentage point since July 2015. At 4.4 percent in July 2016, Washington County has the lowest unemployment rate compared to neighboring Multnomah (4.6%) and Clackamas (4.8%) counties. Washington County also showed strong labor force growth, with an average labor force growth rate of 5 percent in the largest cities.

Washington County employers added 6,000 jobs since July 2015. Construction has added 1,900 jobs in the past year, continuing the industry’s path towards recovery. Manufacturing jobs grew by 0.4 percent, despite the 0.8 percentage point decline in the industry in the Portland metro area as a whole since July 2015.
