WEIGHT LOSS

tips & tricks

JAN 13

A lot of people break down what you need to do to lose weight… lift weights to build muscle, eat solid amounts of all macronutrients, etc., and those things ARE important–but here I share some fun tips & tricks you can try if you are on a weight loss journey that may help you stay on track! TIPS & TRICKS • Tip: Drink water before going out to eat. Try to drink a glass before every meal. Plus, water will help with your skin, and digestion and kidneys. • Tip: Eat salad before a meal to help fill you up- eating more vegetables and greens beforehand will satisfy some of that hunger, so you feel less inclined to eat more calories after. • Tip: Don’t be afraid to leave something on your plate when you go out. Generally, portions of the meals we get when we go out to eat are bigger than we need. You don’t have to eat it all, and don’t use that as an excuse to eat it all. • Trick: When you’re done with a dish while eating out, pour water/beverage on TOP of the plate and just let it go. It seems crazy (and it may be a little bit), but it really can help if you struggle with putting the fork down. Once you’ve had your share of whatever it is, and you know you don’t need or want anymore, stop the temptation to continue to nosh mindlessly. • Trick: Brush your teeth directly after dinner. You’ll be less likely to wander back into the pantry later! • Tip: Never shop hungry! When you’re going through the grocery store ravenous and everything looks appealing, you’re more likely to end up with more in your cart than was on your list, and they probably won’t be the healthier choices. • Trick: Sit at the end of the table at a social gathering! Bread, appetizers and chips are usually served in the center of the table, so if you’re on the outside you’ll have to work a little harder to get those foods, and you’ll probably eat a little less. • Tip: Take progress photos–and not just at the beginning and end, but also ON the journey. Taking progress photos can be discouraging when we’re not where we want to be, and sometimes the last thing we want to do is see that photo– but as you progress you’ll look back and be so proud! • Tip: Keep moving throughout the day. Set an alarm for every 60 minutes on your phone and get up to walk around. We’re at work and on the computer, and the day just goes by. Before you know it you’ve been sitting for 6 or 8 hours straight! FORCE yourself to get up–go get some water, take a walk down the stairs or across the office. • Trick: I haven’t tried it yet, but smell peppermint! A recent study shared that smelling peppermint (and some fruits) can actually help decrease hunger and thereby cut down your calorie intake!
