Welcome Back, Hippo Nation! Hello Hippo Nation! We are excited to start a new year and see all of our students Wednesday morning! Our teachers and staff are amazing, and they can't wait to start doing what they love...teaching your kids! We believe this year is going to be legendary, and we can't wait to see what our students do to help make it that way! There are always challenges and opportunities for learning the first few days of a new school year. Here are a few reminders. TRANSPORTATION: Your Hutto ISD transportation staff have been working hard to make the first few days run as smoothly as possible, but we all know there are likely to be delays and other challenges that arise as people encounter school zones, construction, traffic and trains. There will also be a learning curve for new students, parents and bus drivers! Leave yourself plenty of time for the unexpected. If your student rides a bus, please take a few minutes to become familiar with the information on the Transportation page of the Hutto ISD website. You may find that page by clicking this link: HISD TRANSPORTATION. On the left side of that page, you will find links regarding our "safe walk/bike zones" and bus route information, which includes stops and times. Please understand there may be delays in some routes arriving at the designated pickup locations. SAFETY is the number one priority for our transportation department and school district! Remember to watch for children, observe school zones and speed limits, stay off cell phones in school zones, and please don't text and drive! Patience is needed from everyone, whether your student rides a bus, walks or whether you drive them to school.

Please be respectful, responsible and safe...THE HIPPO WAY! Your Hutto ISD transportation staff and administration will work towards addressing any issues that may arise and will continue working tirelessly to provide the safest and best transportation! SCHOOL START TIMES: Elementary schools run from 7:40 - 2:55 (buildings open at 7:10 a.m.), and secondary (6th12th) run from 8:30 - 3:55(buildings open at 7:45 a.m.). TRAFFIC: We all know traffic can be frustrating, especially the first few days of school when more parents are taking kids to school. It always settles after a week or two...please stay patient. If your campus has prescribed pick-up and drop-off routes, please adhere to them. Those who turn onto Carl Stern from Chris Kelley (685) northbound know that TXDOT built a wide shoulder. Our friends at Hutto Police Department have told us that it is legal to use that shoulder as a turn lane, BUT ONLY IF IT IS SAFE to do so. Cars turning right from the regular right lane (not the shoulder lane) have a legal right to do so. Please be a defensive driver! PEDESTRIANS and BICYCLISTS Many of our students walk or bike to school, and we are fortunate to have outstanding crossing guards to help ensure safety. Please remind your students to obey crossing guards and to practice pedestrian and bike safety at all times. CLICK HERE FOR TIPS ON PEDESTRIAN SAFETY. Also, the new fence at Hutto High School across from CVS is designed to funnel students to the crosswalks at the intersections. Please be mindful of these students as they develop new habits of crossing at the crosswalks. We have very respectful and responsible students in Hutto ISD, but a gentle reminder about not cutting through yards and being respectful of personal property won't hurt. FREE BREAKFAST: This year, all students in Hutto ISD will again be served free breakfast. If your student plans to eat breakfast at the school, please make sure they arrive in time to do so. COMMUNICATION: The principals and teachers work hard to communicate at each campus. As a district, we also work hard to communicate to our students, parents and community. Please make sure your email addresses and phone numbers stay current in Family Access (Skyward). Much information can be found on our website (hipponation.org). Each school has its own website that can be accessed by first going to the district site. Please note that the site changed this year, so you may run across a broken link or missing information. Feel free to let us know! We also use social media as a communication tool, especially Facebook and

Twitter. The district and each campus have Facebook pages. Please understand that we do not use the many different community pages for sharing official information. Thank you for trusting Hutto ISD with your children. Everyday our mission is Inspiring Excellence in Academics, Character and Community. Our mission never stops! Have a legendary school year!
