Welcome Back to Shady Grove Elementary! August 2017 Good day to you, my Shady Grove partner! Mr. Albanese here…reaching out to make sure you’re pumped up for an awesome 2017-2018 school year. Below you’ll learn a little bit about my summer and some other important stuff you might want to share with your parents and loved ones at home. Team Albanese enjoyed a relaxing summer in and around the house. We spent a lot of time together playing sports and making one another laugh (my wife is really funny)! We were able to get away for a couple of short trips, too. We went to Connecticut for a long weekend to spend some time with friends back in July, and we just got back from another long weekend in the Pocono Mountains. Feel free to take a look some pictures from these trips.

We also spent a lot of time with Josie. You might remember we got a dog last year, Josie; she’s a Pug/Jack Russel mix. Although I was not sure bringing Josie into the family was such a great idea at first, I’ve really grown to love her. It’s hard not to…look at that face!! A huge milestone for Team Albanese this year: two of my three children are heading to middle school for the first time! Alyssa is going into 7th grade and Brady is going into 6th grade. Taylor, our baby, is going into 3rd grade. They, like me, cannot wait for school to start! You know who is MOST excited for school to start?…Brandi, my wife, is REALLY excited for school to start so our kids stop driving her and one another crazy!
As we all look to the 2017-2018 school year one thing that I want to stress is that everyone - all of us…including me give our absolute best all the time! Imagine how awesome Shady Grove will be when everyone is giving his or her absolute best all the time! This means taking care of one another, being respectful and polite, and showing manners to ALL people (adults and kids) ALL the time. This also means giving it our absolute best when it comes to academic stuff like reading, writing and math. Imagine how smart we will all become when we give our absolute best in the classroom, and at home all the time! Please don’t be afraid to ask for help or admit you don’t know how to do something. Asking the right people for help is how we get better and smarter. Talk to your parents and loved ones about school. Let them in. It will make them very happy (I love it when my kids talk to me about their day at school)! Now this is a huge job for you: please share the rest of this letter with your parents/guardians. This is important information they will want to know before the first day of school! • We’re moving away from most forms of paper communication. While this is an adjustment for some (especially me), we all need to get on board with electronic communication. Visit the district website [www. wsdweb.org] and take note of these two spotlight stories!
- The Sapphire Community Portal is the way we communicate your child(ren)’s teacher assignment/ schedule. This information is not mailed home. Visit the Sapphire Community Portal web page on the district website. Click the PARENTS tab on the home page.
- School bus information is now available. Use FIND MY BUS to check bus number, location, pick up and drop-off times. Please be aware that some bus routes have changed this year!
