ACADEMICS Our district’s academic program provides o pportunities for all students to reach their full potential. 

To meet the needs of all students, the WCSD offers both half-day and full-day kindergarten classes.



WCSD provides an in-district Virtual Academy with in-school teacher facilitators for high school students.



The WCSD class of 2014 earned $8 million in college and other postsecondary scholarships.



Using Credit Flexibility options, WCSD High School students can earn credits by completing coursework, demonstrating mastery of course content, or pursuing one or more educational options, such as educational travel or internships. Credit Flexibility is intended to motivate and increase student learning by customizing courses around individual student needs.



WCSD High School students are able to earn both high school and college credit in a traditional high school setting through dual credit options.



Glen Este High School and Amelia High School offers Advanced Placement® college – level curriculum and exams to high school students. American colleges and universities often grant placement and course credit to students who obtain high scores on the exams.



Amelia High School encourages “international-mindedness” through the curriculum and pedagogy of International Baccalaureate® (IB) Diploma Program, which focuses on international perspectives of learning and teaching, while insisting that students fully explore their home culture and language.



Middle School students have opportunities to earn high school credits.



WCSD partners with Great Oaks Great Oaks Career Campuses to provide career and technical education for middle school and high school students.



Middle school students benefit from teacher collaboration, teaming, frequent communication with parents, and positive behavior support strategies. Teacher teams meet to plan, coordinate, and evaluate curriculum and instruction. They examine evidence of student learning and help to identify and monitor those students who need enrichment activities, or re-teaching or interventions within a particular content area.



Students at all levels of education are offered opportunities to participate in community service projects.

ARTS Participation in performing and visual arts inspires students’ creativity, problem-solving and critical thinking skills. 

The district provides an array of opportunities for students to strengthen and promote creativity and presentation skills. Students are also encouraged to showcase their talents in numerous venues.



“West Clermont by Request,” a co-curricular select high school vocal music ensemble that rehearses and performs primarily a cappella music in a variety of musical genres, is invited to perform at most special events in the West Clermont community.



The 2014 Glen Este High School Dance Company performs locally and on the Royal Caribbean Cruise Ship Enchantment of the Seas



Annual district-wide student art show displays the talents of elementary, middle and high school students.



Glen Este High School offers a Dance and Movement class for students who want to learn the movements and vocabulary of ballet, jazz, and hip hop. Skills include basic technique, correct alignment, flexibility, strength, selfexpression, and basic choreography.



WCSD offers Music and Arts programs offers at the elementary level: General music, fine arts field trips and assemblies, art shows, concerts and, art enrichment and performing arts opportunities.



Art students are consistently chosen as award recipients in the regional 2014 Scholastic Art & Writing competition.



Music students are consistently chosen to participate in the Ohio Music Education Association District 14 Orchestra.



Fine Arts classes offered: Drama, Concert Band, Marching Band, Mixed Chorus, concert Choir, Encore Choir, West Clermont by Request, Dance and Movement 1, Dance and Movement 11, Dance and Movement 111, Art 1, Art 11, Ceramics, Drawing, Painting, Sculpture, Photography, Video Production, Broadcasting, Computer Graphics, Web Page Design, Standard/High Level Visual Arts.

STUDENT LEADERSHIP AND ACTIVITIES A well-rounded education includes a wide variety of opportunities . 

WCSD offers more than 55 extracurricular activities to students across the district, enabling students to explore a wide variety of interests and develop life skills.



Glen Este Cheerleaders won the 2014 National High School Cheerleading Championship, (game day non-building category.)



Business Professionals of America is the leading CTSO (Career and Technical Student Organization) for students pursuing careers in business management, office administration, information technology and other related career fields.



Project Lead the Way program encourages students to look into engineering and architectural careers.



GEHS Allison Flanigan was selected for the Simon Lazarus Jr. Human Relations Award which is given to students who perform above and beyond in their service for others. The Simon Lazarus Jr. Human Relations Award is considered the most prestigious community service award in the greater Cincinnati area.



Amelia High School received the 2014 Harold A Meyer Sportsmanship Award.



Clough Elementary School Kids Care Club is designed to provide the students opportunities to donate time and resources to military and to needy groups..



Student of the month programs at Elementary and Middle School.



GEMS utilizes student ambassadors for transitions.



GEHS students Cheyanne Schuler and McKenna Weaver, had their artwork that was chosen for display at the Clermont County Domestic Relations.



Members of the GEHS Advanced Health Club gathered together to learn how to make comforters for the Linus Project. Under the guidance of Marilyn Gilger (who has used her sewing talents to make over 400 quilts and comforters for service organizations), the students completed four quilts and started seven more for the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.



Students from GEHS spent the day on four sites in Cincinnati, conducting a major video shoot for the Free Store Food Bank (FSFB). Forty students from Eric Hammer's Photography class, Intro to Video class, Broadcasting class, and Kathy Lach's Journalism class, chaperoned by Eric and Kathy, divided up into teams that were dropped off at four FSFB locations.



GEHS Sophomore Brady Dunigan, had the top score on the American Legion's Americanism Test. Over 65,000 students in Ohio took the test.

Two AHS Sophomores were selected to participate in the 2014 Regional Scholastic Art & Writing Competition. Kayla Hamm received an Honorable Mention for her drawing "Baby Bram" and Aspen Kowsky received a Silver Key for her drawing "Portrait of a Man".



Students in all grade levels participated in a “Stuff the Bus” event to provide food and non-food items to the Inter Parish Ministries for distribution in their pantry.

FISCAL STEWARDSHIP Financial responsibility ensures that the majority of funding is spent on classroom instruction. 

WCSD participates in the Hamilton Clermont Cooperative Association/Unified Purchasing, and the Ohio School Boards Association Workers’ Compensation Group Rating Plan. These insurance purchasing pools utilizes their large numbers, along with low administrative costs and progressive approaches to keep premium costs much lower that what WCSD could achieve on its own.



The WCSD Department of Finance consistently receives the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting, and the Association of School Business Officials (ASBO) Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting.

PARENT & COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT Educational experiences are enhanced by partnerships between the school district and community. 

WCSD has 10 vibrant Parent Teacher Organizations with the majority of members being parents with students in grades K – 8. All parents are invited to participate.



PTOs provide dozens of enrichment activities for students including The Center of Science and Industry (COSI) on Wheels, author visits, area naturalists and animal programs, character-education based speakers, Performing arts groups and more.



WCSD partners with Union Township and the Clermont County Sherriff’s office to provide School Resource Officers who assist school personnel with safety and disciplinary matters, and interacting with the student body on a personal, non-confrontational basis.



The West Clermont Education Foundation was created to support educational programs and needs that are not covered by the West Clermont School District. The West Clermont Educational Foundation is 100% independent of the West Clermont Schools and School Board. 

STUDENT SERVICES A variety of services provide options to ensure all students receive individualized instruction, enrichment and support. 

Health services are provided by a registered nurse and 14 health aides throughout the District.



1,308 students receive special education students receiving services like Preschool disabilities, social communication support for students with autism, multiple disabilities and emotion disturbance. WCSD also provides support for students transitioning to the work force as cross-categorical support for all students with disabilities.



The food service department served 579,250 plate lunches throughout the District’s kitchens. This is accomplished through the full operation of 8 kitchens and 4 satellite kitchens. The District currently offers a breakfast program at all buildings.



Students in the WCSD also receive guidance, psychological, and limited mental health services free of charge. The guidance services are designed to help students match their natural skills with vocational and/or academic programs to help them achieve their full potential in life. Psychological

301 students participated in specific trades through Great Oaks Institute of Technology and Career Development programs



Transportation is provided for over 2,309 students each day. The District fleet of 44 buses travels over 3,841 miles each day, transporting to 32 different sites. In addition to making more than 80 daily runs, the department stays legally compliant by transporting both public and non-public students on 514 extra-curricular trips during the year.

SUMMARY The West Clermont Local School District is located approximately thirty minutes east of downtown Cincinnati. This suburban community is crossed north-south by Interstate 275 and east-west by State Routes 125 and 32. The district covers fifty-four square miles including Union Township, Amelia Village and portions of Batavia, Monroe, and Pierce Townships. Regional, Educational, and Cultural Attractions West Clermont residents have easy access to the surrounding educational, cultural, sports and recreational facilities afforded by a metropolitan area. The University of Cincinnati, Xavier University, Northern Kentucky University, Clermont College, Thomas More College, College of Mount Saint Joseph and Miami University are all within close driving distance from West Clermont. The area has several museums, the Cincinnati Symphony and Ballet, and other venues for fine arts performances, including the newly constructed Aronoff Center and Playhouse in the Park. Besides college sports, professional sports include the Cincinnati Reds, Cincinnati Bengals, and the Cyclones professional hockey team. Recreational facilities include East Fork Lake, the Cincinnati Zoo, the Hamilton and Clermont County Park Systems, and the Ohio River.
