EXHIBITIONS
Cheltenham Illustration Awards 2016 Tales of Nonsense Organised by the University of Gloucestershire and enabled by the kind sponsorship of David Elyan, the Cheltenham Illustration Awards showcases works from emerging artists and university graduates. The Wilson is pleased to be welcoming back this annual exhibition which celebrates illustration and the role it plays in telling stories. The exhibition theme, Tales of Nonsense, is one which has been explored by illustrators, storytellers and poets for generations – notably Edward Lear and Mervyn Peake. This year, the Awards received inventive entries from countries all over the globe.
2nd & 3rd floor galleries 25 January - 5 March 2017 The Order of Things… Curated by artists Andrew Bick, Jonathan Parsons and Katie Pratt, The Order of Things examines the position of abstract art in our current world and how it relates to being human. Using painting, the principle medium of abstract pioneers working in the early 20th century, the exhibition explores how current practices are increasingly employing more interactive and kinetic forms to cross boundaries between art and science, art and social and political engagement and celebrating the value of things which are concrete rather than virtual. Organised in partnership with The University of Gloucestershire.
