Canteen Thank you to our J3 Green team who helped out this week. It was fantastic to see so many families in their helping….definitely made the day run smoothly. J3 Gold – its your turn this weekend! RHA’s primary purpose of the Canteen is to provide healthy, appealing and delicious food and drinks for its members. A lot of our families are around the fields from start up to pack down, and for those that are only there for a game or too – the canteen offers a wide variety of food and drinks at affordable prices. We offer a mixture of homemade foods such as our weekly specials of meals and cakes; packaged meals such as pies or sausage rolls; and of course our freshly prepared sandwiches, wraps and burgers. Our aim is to make it affordable, yet create enough profit to cover the costs of facility hire for the season. (this helps to keep our fees to a minimum) The service is organised by a manager, but run jointly by volunteers to ensure the canteen operates in a profitable manner. The volunteers help with the running of the canteen to ensure our high standard of food service, cleanliness and of course smooth operation throughout the day. Not only does our weekly group of parent volunteers help to keep our fees down, it is a wonderful way to meet other parents…so when its your teams turn – get in and do your bit! This will be our last week before we break for holidays. Enjoy some special time with your family, and for those travelling for State Championships – play well! See you all at the Canteen

School Hockey Cluster Day Carnivals - THANKYOU to our HELPERS RHA recently hosted 2 carnival days – CLUSTER DAYS. The 150+ students from 8 Local schools chose to give hockey a try – and, by the smiles on their faces throughout the day they were having a great time!. Throughout both days, the teachers were commenting on how great the days were, fantastic enthusiastic coaches, and the student officials were such wonderful role models…and especially how great RHA and its members are! Its always wonderful to get positive feedback, as the will now go back and spread the good news! A huge thank you to all the coaches and student umpires who helped out over the 2 Cluster Day Carnivals. Without your help – days like this aren’t able to go ahead.

RDO: Taylah F Coaches: Ross R, Matt W, Jackson F, Anne S Student Umpires: Brooke A, Jay W, Jai H, Corey H, Kate S, Emma S, Sam S, Kayley C, Steven C, Hannah F, Jessica F Canteen: Sue A SPORTING SCHOOL PROGRAM – BAYVIEW Over the last 4 weeks, RHA has provided a hockey program to 30 P-4 Bayview students. During the 4 weeks, players learnt fundamental hockey skills whilst participating in fun, participant based activities. This includes dribbling, pushing and passing, trapping, and tackling, culminating in being able to play a modified game. Programs that are offered within our local schools encourage potential growth for RHA. All schools within the Redlands have been given information on how to get Hockey Programs, so if it’s something you think your school may be interested in- speak to your PE teacher, or come get some more info from me. RHA reaches a milestone in 2012, we have now been operating for 5 years. Palacio Property Group signed on as a principle partner to RHA and sponsored us to a total of $5000. It was our first full season operating out of Henry Ziegenfusz Park albeit a wet one and we missed a few days here and there. With a further increase in membership we were able to run an Under 7s, Under 9s, Under 11s, Under 14s,Under 18s and Women’s and Men’s senior competitions. A strategic alliance was formed with the then Coomera Hockey Club (now Roosters) which was made available to all RHA juniors; 15 players trekked off to the Gold Coast each week to play in the Gold Coast competition on a Friday night. This fitted well with RHA as our competition ran throughout Saturday. These player were rewarded at the end of the season cleaning up with most of the Coomera Hockey Awards for best players, coaches awards, MVPs, club awards and Club Person Award (awarded to Stacey Freeman) With the of help of some grant funding from the Active Inclusion Program we again ran some umpire, goal keeping, coaching and Tech programs. Rhonda Nix visited and we ran our first Tech Official course which was well attended by our then team managers. That year we boasted having the highest number of umpires and mentors and the umpiring was fast becoming high in standard and being recognised within Hockey Qld. We again sent U13 Boys and Girls teams, U15s Boys and Girls (Jade Davey was awarded “Player of Division 2”), U18s Girls team, men’s masters team and Two (2) women’s master teams (Div 3 and Div 6). Sharon again made it into the O60s Qld team and Lou C played with Tasmania in their O40s team. We also had an U11 Boys and Girls teams play in the Southern Cross and Coulter Shield Carnival day and we sent U7s and U9s to the Caboolture carnival.

With all this exposure to external competitions and turf hockey the standard of hockey at RHA was improving in leaps and bounds.
