2016 saw us have a change in president. After 8 years Mel Woosnam stepped down to pursue a role on the Hockey Australia Board and Sharon Collins who had been on the board as Vice President for a number years took over.

It was also a year when we introduced a sporting schools position and had someone dedicate their time to organizing visits into school

to teach hockey as part of the school’s sporting programs.

Other highlights were we had 422 players registered (including hooked into hockey registrations) and we actively encourage our juniors to play into the senior competition therefore allowing daughters and sons to play alongside their mothers and fathers.

The umpire program still performed well with 70 umpires regularly umpiring each week.

We increased our turf and indoor opportunities by sending an U15 girls team to the GCHA competition, women’s Monday masters and Mens masters, plus summer Turf competitions at East and the State Hockey Centre. We had over 120 RHA players involved in the Summer indoor hockey.

We again had success within our Rep Hockey program with the U13 girls Best player of Div 3 awarded to Charli Mackinder and the Rising Star Award to Charli Woosnam. Rhys Mackinder was again selected into the Qld U13 boys team to play at Nationals in Perth. Jackson Freeman was also selected for the 2nd year running as a Qld umpire and toured New Zealand with the Qld U19 Mens and + -Women’s school teams, he was also awarded the “Qld Young Aspiring Umpire award at the U15 Men’s tournament. Within the Senior Reps, we sent for the first time ever and Opens womens team, plus several of our mens and women’s masters were selected in the Qld teams. Congratulations to Graham and Joanna (also named as a shadow in the Australian 45s team) Symes; Dave Tully, Cathy Dichmont, Rebecca O’Neill , Robyn Larcombe, Petra West and Donne Swartz.
