hile many people know Vegas PBS for the educational programming we provide for children on Channel 10, some may not know that we also provide lifelong education opportunities for individuals of all ages. From our first days as a broadcaster in 1968, we have been providing adult education and high school degree programs to help individuals in Southern Nevada achieve their educational and professional goals. In response to the changing needs of our community during the economic recession, our adult education program evolved to include robust online education and workforce development services. Our goal was to add capacity to the workforce training system and assist individuals as they sought programs and services for employment. Since 2010, Vegas PBS has trained more than 467,000 individuals online in areas from English as a Second Language, High School Completion Diploma, teacher licensing renewal, food safety, OSHA, medical records technician, veterinary assistant, paralegal assistant, CISCO computer certification and more. These tuition-based online courses, combined with our face-to-face professional development courses allowed Vegas PBS to provide workplace certifications to more than one million individuals since the recession began. While our economy is improving, Vegas PBS’ work continues to evolve with it. We have recently re-branded our training website for more ease in locating programs and services; we continue to add new, in-demand courses to our training catalog; and new testing services are added and proctored in our Workforce Training and Testing Center computer lab located at the Vegas PBS Educational Technology Campus. All of our workforce development programs are paid for through tuition payments and grant funds. In addition, Vegas PBS now has four workforce development coordinators who work directly with individuals in our community, along with local business and industry partners. If you are a business owner looking to grow or train your workforce, or if you know someone seeking employment or training, I invite you to call Vegas PBS at 702.799.1010 and meet with one of our workforce development professionals (see below). You can also visit our training center on the web at VegasPBS.learn.com. For several years now, September has been designated by the National Association of Workforce Development Professionals as National Workforce Development Month to honor those professionals who work to assist individuals and businesses in either growing their business or assisting individuals who need employment. It is through efforts of all our local workforce development professionals and development agencies that we are able to diversify our economy and assist individuals through the recession, and I wanted to take a moment to recognize and thank all our local workforce professionals for making a difference. Donna Carano-Cooper Just watched the episode about Wild Flyers. It was great, but the ending about how they were photographed was the best. It answered the questions I kept asking as I watched. Thank you. :) @24k @ChefHKeller I didn't know you lived in Brazil. I enjoyed watching your Brazilian #food episode on @VegasPBS. The food looked delicious @dsyzdek @VegasPBS great show on the Great Barrier Reef tonight. Fond memories of the shark dive I did on Osprey Reef. Robert Carver Watching the fascinating PBS documentary, The Test. I've been to Vegas but I never got to see atomic weapons testing. I'm sure it was spectacular. @berrymorin I used to watch #Arthur with our son. Now I watch it w/ oldest granddaughter!~ @VegasPBS @PBSKIDS @VicWakefield Thanks @VegasPBS 4 powerful history lessons in National Mall and White House specials today. Feels like good timing.
