SHOULD ATTEND: The Certified in Exhibition Management (CEM) designation was created in 1975 by the IAEE to provide a professional designation for individuals in the exhibitions and events industry. To earn the designation, participants must complete a nine-part program within three years. Recertification is required every three years after the initial program is completed to maintain the certification.

Bruce Lemmon, CEM, is founder and owner of GEM Global Events Management LLC, a consultancy which helps non-profit organizations expand successful programs and projects, with an emphasis on exhibition management and new conference and tradeshow development. As Head of the Office of International Development for the world’s largest geoscience association (30,000 members in 116 countries), he established and coordinated new non-U.S.-based activities while continuing to oversee the international conference and exhibition management team. Bruce received his Certified in Exhibition Management designation from IAEE in 1993 and has served on several committees, including the CEM Commission. Bruce was a recipient of IAEE’s Merit Award and is a CEM International Faculty member who teaches in the US, Korea and Thailand.

BRUCE LEMMON, CEM

Senior Business Development Manager - Freeman Charlotte Pearson, CEM, joined Freeman in 2011 as Senior Business Development Manager in the Freeman Las Vegas branch. Freeman is the premier provider of integrated marketing solutions for face-to-face events. Charlotte is responsible for sales management, strategic sales planning, and pre/show site/ post show support on over 30 tradeshows per year. The shows she produces are in various industries and range from associations to corporate events. She has worked with the Bowling Association to the large insurance giant AIG…from government military associations, to large sports equipment shows. Charlotte has been an active member of IAEE since 1992 and was the 2015 Chair of the CEM Commission. Charlotte also served on the IAEE Education Committee for several years and eventually chaired the committee. Charlotte is a CEM International Faculty member and teaches several times a year in the US as well as internationally in Taiwan, Thailand and Korea.

AL LOMAS, CMP, CMM, CFE, CEM Owner of Certified Consulting Service

Al Lomas, CMP, CMM, CFE, CEM, Owner of Certified Consulting Service, teaches CEM courses for IAEE across the nation as well as internationally including Azerbaijan, Taiwan and China. He is retired from the City of San Antonio after 21 years of service. Al managed more than 600 events annually held at the Municipal Auditorium, Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, Lila Cockrell Theatre, HemisFair Arena and Alamodome. The mix of events included conventions, consumer shows, trade shows, meetings, performing arts events, sporting events, concerts and with the emphasis on providing a positive secondary experience while in the facilities. Al was the CEM Commission Chairperson for IAEE in 2013, has been a member of the CEM faculty since 2007, was Director of Education for MPI Texas Hill Country Chapter from 2008-2012 and a CMP Study Group Leader for MPI from 2001-2012.

DENNIS SHARLAND, CEM

Sr. Manager of Expositions and Advertising for the Air Force Association Dennis Sharland, CEM is Sr. Manager of Expositions and Advertising for the Air Force Association. He is a seasoned and certified trade show professional with almost 20 years of experience. He has had the opportunity to experience all sides of the industry in venues across the US as well as Europe and Australia on shows with as few as 20 exhibitors to those with more than 1000. Dennis now manages two of the most well regarded trade shows in the aerospace and defense market having taken them from floor plans printed on foam core and exhibit guides produced in-house to interactive floor plans that are available 24/7 and a professional produced guide worthy of repeat sponsorship. Dennis is also a member of IAEE’s CEM Commission.

ERIC UDLER, CEM

President, All Show Services

Eric Udler, CEM produces two consumer pet shows a year in New York and Washington, DC. Eric also produces the New Jersey Home Show, which is the largest and most established home show in the New York Metropolitan Area. Prior to launching his own shows, Eric was a sales executive with two of the world’s largest exhibitions and Tradeshow Week Top 200 shows -- the Consumer Electronics Shows (CES) and the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB). Eric has been a member of IAEE since 1992 and received his CEM designation in 1994. He is a former Chair of the Public Events Council. COURSE: Consumer Show Management

KELLIE SHEVLIN, CEM

Executive Director, Craft Beverage Expo Kellie Shevlin earned her Certification in Event Management (CEM) designation in 2007, was featured by Exhibit City News on its “40 under 40” list, and holds wine certifications for the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) and the Society of Wine Educators Certified Scholar of Wine (CSW). Having spent a year researching the craft beverage market and getting counsel from industry leaders, she identified a void in the space and found a need to service the craft segment specifically, and more importantly, the need for a post-production focus to improve businesses of craft beverage companies nationally. Nancy Milani, CEM, CMP has produced and coordinated over 200 events in the past 25 years from a variety of charity fundraisers, to professional sporting and corporate events, conferences, trade and consumer shows. Nancy has served well on numerous boards and committees and currently is on her second term with the Board of Directors for the Canadian Association of Exhibition Management (CAEM). Presently she produces two consumer shows, two trade shows and conferences and oversees another 20 events annually. Nancy facilitates Certified in Exhibition Management (CEM) courses for IAEE in Canada, the United States and Asia and regularly lectures on sales, marketing and event management to various groups.

Naomi Wagschal, CEM CMP brings more than two decades of enthusiasm and innovation in all aspects of trade show and convention management. Her role as Meetings and Exhibitions Business Manager for The College of Family Physicians of Canada includes strategic planning, convention meeting planning, site selection, facility and hotel contracting, budgeting, logistics, and personnel management. In 2013 Naomi was inducted into the Canadian Association of Exposition Management (CAEM) Hall of Fame for her contributions to that Association and the exposition industry in Canada. Naomi holds certifications in both exposition management and meeting planning and joined the IAEE CEM faculty in 2013.

STEVEN HACKER, CAE, CEM, FASAE Principal – Bravo Management Group

Following a notable 40-year long career as CEO of several nonprofit associations, Steven Hacker, CAE, CEM, FASAE, is now the Principal of Bravo Management Group, an organization that provides strategic leadership, governance, marketing and event planning expertise to associations and trade show organizers around the world. He authors a column (“The Association Doctor”) in Association News magazine published monthly by Schneider Publishing of Los Angeles that is read by 50,000 association professionals. Steven is recognized as an authority on the structure and leadership of nonprofit organizations and has earned prestigious professional designations including Certified Association Executive (1974), ASAE Fellow (1988) and CEM (Certified in Exhibition Management) in 2012. He is the first American to have received the Power and Profile award of the Joint Meetings Industry Council (JMIC) in 2012. He is also an award-winning professional photographer who specializes in exhibition and event photography.

During more than two decades as CEO of the International Association of Exhibitions and Events (IAEE), headquartered in Dallas, Texas (USA) Steven helped build that organizations membership four-fold and established offices in Brussels, Singapore and Beijing. He designed the ‘Certified in Exhibition Management’ (CEM) designation program that now operates in ten nations. Inducted into the Convention Industry Council’s Hall of Leaders in 2007, Steven has been named “One of the 25 Most Influential People in the Events Industry” nine times.

CEM LEARNING PROGRAM

BECOME A CEM In the exhibitions and events industry, the Certified in Exhibition Management (CEM) designation is the premier designation offering a cutting-edge certification for exhibition industry professionals. The CEM curricula, a dependable so urce of specific knowledge for all individuals, emphasizes direct application to daily challenges and can be tailored to the individual needs and interests of participants. Because of the emphasis on practical knowledge, the CEM Professional Designation Learning Program is first, an educational program, and second, a certification program. The availability of online and face-to-face courses help to meet the needs, individual preferences and time commitments of CEM participants.

JOIN THE GLOBAL CEM NETWORK The CEM Professional Designation Learning Program is a global designation offered in the United States, Brazil, Canada, China, Dubai, Korea, Mexico, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, Taiwan and Thailand. More than 2,200 active CEMs around the world make up the CEM Network which serves as a new channel for communication, ideas, thought leadership, industry recognition and promotion. Designees use the CEM logo on business cards, resumes, social networks, websites and other forms of collateral to reinforce expertise. Hiring managers can be confident that applicants carrying the CEM designation are knowledgeable and skilled in exhibition management.

PREPARATION FOR BECOMING A CEM CEM candidates are required to have at least three years of full-time experience as a practitioner in exhibition and/or event management prior to beginning the CEM Learning Program. New candidates must submit a CEM application and $100 application fee to enroll in the program, which includes a copy of the supplemental publication, The Art of the Show, An Introduction to Exhibition Management. To earn the designation, participants must complete nine of 12 courses and pass the corresponding exams within three years of beginning the program. Participants are encouraged to choose their courses based on their needs and interests. There are no mandatory courses. The three-year time frame begins at the time the first exam is passed.
