Winter Trip From Octuber to Febreaury

On this trip of 7 nights and 8 days, you can enjoy the autumn-winter in Extremadura. We will visit the various habitats of the central region of Extremadura, perhaps one of the best places in Europe for birdwatching. The great diversity of habitats enable us to enjoy a number of species of birds difficult to observe in any other part of Europe. This will enable us to have to drive a few kilometers, so it will be a trip with a large content of sustainability. In addition, part of the income of your holiday will go to offset the carbon footprint we produce in our car journeys. We’ll visit open plains with cereal crops, steppes, meadows, wetlands and mountainous terrain. In our area of operation, we have surveyed at least 170 overwintering species, and in any case, will be relatively simple to reach 120 species in one trip of one week. You can visit our website to see them www.photobirds.com Day 1: Transfer from the airport (Seville, Madrid). Depending on the landing time of your flight, we can begin to enjoy the naural of Extremadura, visiting the banks of the Guadiana river from the Roman Bridge of Merida, from where we can see lots of herons. If the airport is Madrid, we can begin visiting the plains near Trujillo, where we will can see steppe birds and birds of prey. Day 2-7 We will visit the plains near Campo Lugar village, Natura 2000 Network for his reserve of steppe birds such as Great Bustards, Little Bustards, Stone Curlew, Black-Bellied Sandgrouse, Marsh Harriers and Hen Harrier. But at the same time, we see Black Vultures, Griffon Vultures, Red Kite, Calandra Lark, Corn Bunting, Hoopoe, Golden Plovers, Zitting Cisticola, Common Cranes everywhere and etc. In the plains of Santa Marta and Trujillo we can also see Iberian Sandgrouse and Spanish Imperial Eagle. We will visit the National Park Monfragüe, very important for the conservation of two endangered species, the Black Vulture and the Spanish Imperial Eagle. In this park whose habitat is the Mediterranean forest and pasture, an important colony of Griffon Vultures, Crag Martin, Blue Rock Thrush, Bonelli’s Eagle, Golden Eagle, Peregrine Falcon, etc. may also be observed

In the environment there are several wetlands Campo Lugar, Alcollarín Reservoir, Sierra Brava Reservoir and rice fields of Campo Lugar and Puebla de Alcollarín. In these wetlands, along with many species of ducks, we can see Black Stock, Spoonbill, Great Egret, Black Stork, Common Waxbill, Red Avadavat, and many waders depending on the time and the water level. In Alcollarín reservoir, this year we have seen, more over many species of ducks, a female and a male of Ring-Necked Duck. In

the plains of Santa Marta, besides the usual steppe, this year we have seen throughout the winter, a Sociable Lapwing. In all routes will accompany us Spanish Sparrows, Sardinian Warblers, Azur-Winged Magpies, Hoopoe, etc. We will see an amazing raptor, Black-Winged Kite. The order in which we would develop these six days depend on your preferences and the weather Day 8: Return to the departure airport. Depending on the departure time, we could visit somewhere way to the airport. Accommodation: Accommodation will be in studio apartment for up to four persons. It includes breakfast and dinner; we will have the lunch on the field with picnic.

Transport: The transport will be done in Audi Allroad Quattro in the days of birding and Opel Insignia Touring for airport transfers. If you want, to reduce the CO2 emision, you can choose any days to do sustainable birdwatching, with routes walking o bike from our guesthouse El Elanio in Campo Lugar

Prices: The price per person is 1250 € in one of our apartments (VAT included), considering it is for a minimum of two people. For trips of only one person, contact us, please. If you dont’t want contract the transfer from airport, we can do a discount, of course.

Note: Every photo have been done in our trips, from car o walking, so we think that besides to watch a big quantity of species of birds, you can'll do good photos in this travel.
