Working with a parent who experiences mental illness? FREE Let’s Talk about children training Darwin - October 2015 What is the Let’s Talk intervention? Let’s Talk about children is a brief evidence based intervention that involves discussions with parents about their child’s development, strategies for managing the impact of parental mental illness and strengthening networks and supports for the family. Let’s Talk provides adult mental health services with a structured, versatile and evidence based method to support parents experiencing mental illness and their dependent children.

Why use it? • It can be integrated into the recovery model • It supports healthy parent-child relationships, promoting protective factors for the childs wellbeing • The method is evidence-based, with demostrated outcomes for parents, children and families. • It improves understanding of issues facing parents when they have a mental illness

Who is it for? Professionals in adult mental health settings, primary health care, drug and alcohol services, non-government organisations, child mental health and child and youth services.
