Upcoming 2040 Long Range Plan open houses Our long range planning process is well underway. Ferry ridership is expected to grow 30 percent by 2040. The Long Range Plan will provide a blueprint for WSF on how to meet customer needs and accommodate the next generation of ferry riders. Join us at an open house in your community to learn more and share your priorities for the 2040 Long Range Plan. Can’t attend in person? Assistant Secretary Award WSF honored Construction Staff Chief Engineer Robert “Bob” Wolken on Tuesday with our first division-wide Assistant Secretary’s Award. The award recognizes an employee who delivers great results and goes about their work in a way that demonstrates sustained dedication and strong character as a public servant.

Burlington Northern Santa Fe crews will close the railroad crossing at State Route 104/Main Street near the entrance to the Edmonds Ferry Terminal from 11:59 p.m. Saturday, March 17, to 6:45 a.m. Sunday, March 18. BNSF is working around WSF's Edmonds/Kingston schedule to complete train track maintenance work called tamping. The final ferry out of Edmonds is scheduled to leave at 11:45 p.m. Saturday and the first ferry Sunday is due to arrive around 6:50 a.m.

Throughout Bob’s career he has strived to maintain vessel safety and reliability. He’s been seen reading vessel manuals during down time at work. He was previously a staff chief engineer for the Hiyu and Kittitas, as well as a relief chief engineer. Always willing to teach and said to go above and beyond to lend a helping hand, Bob is known as the resident expert on propulsion control and steering systems. He’s the go-to person when others have technical questions or problems. Twenty of Bob’s colleagues nominated him for this award. Congratulations, Bob. We are so happy to have you on our team!

In 2016, Construction Staff Chief Bob Wolken received his compass and pin from Director of vessels Matt von Ruden recognizing his 35 years of service with WSF Legislative session wraps up Last week, the legislature ended it’s 2018 session with continued strong support for WSF. They funded Gov. Inslee’s request for a study on hybrid-electric ferries and increased support for our terminal projects in Seattle and Mukilteo. We appreciate the work of ferry legislators and the Senate and House Transportation Committees, especially Senate Chair Steve Hobbs and Ranking Member Curtis King and House Chair Judy Clibborn and Ranking Member Ed Orcutt. I will provide a more in-depth look at our funding in a future Weekly Update once the Governor signs the budget.
