Orcas Island Park and Ride opening On Tuesday, we celebrated the grand opening of the new Orcas Island Park and Ride near the Orcas ferry terminal. Director of Terminal Engineering Nicole McIntosh and Director of Government Relations John Vezina attended on behalf of WSF. The new park and ride was a joint project with San Juan County and is an effort to improve safe road conditions along Orcas Road. Once the park and ride is open, the County is planning to restrict parking on the shoulders of Orcas Road.

November 3, 2017 Thank you to all of our veterans In honor of Veterans Day this month, I want to thank all the veterans in the WSF family. One of them is Safety Officer Chuck Shaw, a retired U.S. Navy Master Chief Petty Officer. He served from 1972 to 1994, working primarily in communications at several locations across the country and was assigned to six ships. At WSF, Chuck strives to ensure our employees go home at the end of their shift the same way they arrived at work. Thank you to Chuck and all who have served our country!

New bike lanes on the

Hairy Ferries this Movember The Puyallup and the Tacoma have a new look for the month of November! WSF has teamed up with the Movember Foundation to bring awareness to men’s health issues by sporting giant black mustaches on the two ferries. The pilot program is the first time the ferry system has had such a display on the exterior of a ferry.

Tacoma When the Tacoma returns to service on the Seattle/Bainbridge route next week passengers may notice some changes on the vehicle deck. Based on input from Bainbridge Island bicycle group Squeaky Wheels, we’ve restriped the deck so it's more clear where bicyclists park and disembark to make it faster for cyclists to get off the boat and safer for everyone. The creative new striping means bicycle parking is slightly expanded without any impact to capacity for vehicles. Additionally, there are new designated motorcycle parking areas on the lower car deck. All of our Jumbo Mark II ferries will get the upgraded striping and new bike racks over the coming months as they go in for regular maintenance.

Commemorative Colman Dock pile installed Two weeks ago, I shared photos from our Colman Dock in-water construction kick off. II'm excited to share that our signed “commemorative pile” was installed this week at Colman Dock.

Mukilteo Terminal construction update Since construction began in September, crews have been

hard at work to prepare the site of the new Mukilteo ferry terminal, removing decades-old concrete walls and installing in-water piles for the new trestle. As the site takes shape, we're working with the City of Mukilteo and the contractor to maintain pedestrian access, allowing Mukilteo residents and visitors alike to enjoy a waterfront stroll throughout construction. The next phase of construction, to install stormwater utility lines, begins in early 2018.

Daylight savings time reminder Daylight Saving Time ends Sunday, Nov. 5 at 2 a.m. The full sailing day of Saturday, Nov. 4, starts and ends on Pacific Daylight Saving Time. Terminals and vessels will turn their clocks back one hour after the end of the full Saturday sailing schedule.

Crews from Orion Marine Construction install piles using a vibratory hammer Staff Chief Engineer meeting On Monday afternoon, I attended a meeting with all our Staff Chief Engineers, the first in several years. Staff Chiefs are a highly skilled group of engineers who are the leaders below deck, directing engine room operations. The group met at Seattle Maritime Academy to discuss operations, workforce development, and practice on the engine room simulators. I enjoyed learning from this group and getting a tiny peek at what they do every day. Thank you for your hard work at WSF!

Vessels that have trips remaining at or after 2 a.m. will complete their normal Saturday sailing schedule before changing their clocks back. The sailing day starting on Sunday, Nov. 5, will be under Pacific Standard Time. 30 years of service This week, Ticket Seller Karen Moen was recognized for her 30 years of service with WSF. Karen currently works as a seller at the Fauntleroy terminal. Congratulations, Karen!

Happy Halloween!

Thank you to everyone who joined us for trick-or-treating along the Seattle Waterfront on Sunday. We had over 300 children stop by the information booth inside the Colman Dock terminal for a treat!

Seattle Sounders join us on the Sound!

10 due to the Veterans Day holiday.

On Thursday, in recognition of the Seattle Sounder's Western Conference Semifinal match against the Vancouver Whitecaps, retired Sounders players Kasey Keller and Roger Levesque surprised passengers during the Seattle/Bainbridge morning commute. They gave out Sounder swag and tickets to the game, and encouraged fans to buy their ferry tickets in advance if traveling on game nights. We also flew the Sounders flag on our Bainbridge Island and Bremerton ferries. Congratulation to the Sounders on the victory!

The cover of our 2018 Winter Sailing Schedule will feature a beautiful photograph taken by Brie Hawkins. Out of more than 150 submissions to our #FerryFotoContest, Brie’s shot received the most “likes” on our @wsferries Twitter feed. Thank you to all the great photographers who submitted a pic, as well as everyone who connected with us on Twitter for this contest. And of course, congratulations Brie!
