WUKF2018 Helpful Guide We look forward to welcoming you to the City of Dundee for the 7th WUKF World Karate Championships for All Ages. We have created this helpful guide to assist in the planning of your visit.

Championship Venue The 7th WUKF World Karate Championships is taking place at Dundee Ice Arena. Address: Dundee Ice Arena, 7 Dayton Drive, Dundee, DD2 3SQ

Travel and Parking Visit location for Dundee Ice Arena on Google Maps HERE Parking is available at Dundee Ice Arena, however, you are advised to arrive early to secure your space as parking is available on a first come first served basis. There is no charge for car parking. Coaches will be directed to a drop off point at the back of Dundee Ice Arena.

Visitor Information Heather the VisitScotland Coo Van will be on the moo-ve this summer to visit the 7th WUKF World Karate Championships. She won’t be alone either, with our dedicated Coo-visors expertly herding her into place, to then provide inspiration and information to visitors on holiday in Scotland. Come and say hello on Friday 15 June between 07h00 and 10h00 and 17h00 and 18h30 and on Saturday 16 June between 07h00 and 10h00 outside Dundee Ice Arena. Equipment Merchandiser A WUKF approved equipment merchandiser will be located at Dundee Ice Arena with a wide selection of approved equipment.

Physiotherapy Tigers Eye Sports Therapy and Massage will be providing a sports injury clinic at Dundee Ice Arena. Treatment Options include: sports injury assessment and treatment, sports massage, acupuncture, kinesiology and sports taping, cupping and spinal manipulations.

First Aid A full first aid team will be on hand at the Championship Venue, Dundee Ice Arena for athletes and spectators.

WUKF2018 Travel and Information Desk A #WUKF2018 Travel and Information desk will be located within the arena to assist with any queries.

Catering at the Championship Venue Let’s Eat Group will be providing event catering over four separate units including burgers, hot dogs, pizzas, sandwiches and a selection of hot and cold drinks. Within Camperdown Leisure Park there is also McDonalds, KFC, Ashoka Shak Indian Restaurant and Weavers Mill Restaurant. It should be noted that no food from external providers will be permitted in the arena site.

Climate Dundee is one of the sunniest cities in Scotland and enjoys an average of 1,523 hours of sunshine every year. Dundee is positioned close to the sea which means that winters can be quite mild. The average temperature for December – February is 1°C and the temperatures can reach highs of 20°C in July and August. For the rest of the year temperatures are mild and compare favourably with other cities.

Local Time During the summer months, the UK observes British Summer Time (BST), which is one hour ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT).

Smoking In March 2006, smoking was formally banned in enclosed public places including workplaces, conference venues, hotel bedrooms, shops, restaurants and pubs across Scotland. Designated smoking areas are available outside most shopping centres, pubs and restaurants and many come with heated panels and shelters. A penalty of £50 may be enforced to those caught smoking out with the designated area.

Vaccinations No vaccinations are required prior to visiting Scotland.

Driving Licences You can drive on any full foreign driving licence for up to 12 months but after that you will need a full UK driving licence. The UK Driving Test includes both practical and theory tests. In the UK, cars drive on the left side of the road. The National Speed Limit is 60mph (98km/h) on singlecarriageway roads and 70mph (112km/h) on dual-carriageways and motorways. Built-up areas have a standard 30mph (48km/h) limit in force, though in some areas (near schools, housing estates etc.), it drops to 20mph but this will be clearly signed. Electricity The UK electricity supply is 240 volts at 50 hertz (cycles). You will need to change the plugs on all electrical appliances to British plugs with three rectangular pins, or use suitable adaptors available to buy in most supermarkets, chemists and tourist shops.

Places of Worship There are opportunities for worship in a wide range of faiths including Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism and Sikhism, as well as multi-denominational institutions, which welcome people of all faiths or none.
