County of Contra Costa Ballot Measures Measure T - Ask voters to extend an existing West Contra Costa Unified School District school funding measure for eight more years, from July 2019 to June 2027. Keeping the current parcel tax rates of 7.2 cents per square foot of building area, exempting seniors and requiring citizen oversight. It is projected to generate $9.8 million annually and requires two thirds to pass. CBE Action supports this measure because the revenue will help maintain quality education, retain and attract quality teachers in the West Contra Costa School District.

City of Richmond Ballot Measures Measure L – Proposes to amend Richmond’s Municipal Code and add a new ordinance that will establish rent control, a rent board, and just cause for eviction requirements in the City of Richmond. Currently Richmond’s Municipal Code does not set maximum allowable rents neither establish limitations on the terminations of tenancies. CBE Action supports this measure because it will provide renter protection and affordability for the thousands of renters in the City. The measure requires the majority to pass.

City of Richmond City Council Candidates Ben Choi – Is a progressive leader whose priorities are creating fair and affordable housing, economic development and good jobs, safe streets, environmental protections and a healthy environment for Richmond residents. Mr. Choi serves on the City of Richmond Planning Commission since 2010. CBE Action is supporting candidate Choi because he is a leader that believes in government for the people by the people and is committed to create a better “Richmond for All.” Melvin Willis – Is committed to advance the ongoing Richmond progressive transformation for all its residents. His priorities are to protect renters, expand home ownership for all residents, creating healthy sustainable development, and local jobs, and organize a campaign for a community hospital. Mr. Willis served as a City of Richmond Planning Commissioner from 2012-2014. CBE Action support candidate Willis for his progressive values and because his “loyalty is only to the voters.”
