FISHING INSTRUCTOR Job Title: Fishing Instructor (Part-Time) Reports To: Program Development Director and/or Branch Executive Director Hourly Rate: $10-13

GENERAL FUNCTION: The Camp Curtin YMCA is currently seeking an eager professional who loves to fish but also loves his or her community and the youth we serve. This person will commit to planning lessons and fishing trips for up to ten participants on Saturday mornings. The Fishing Instructor will devise lessons on environmental health and safety, local fish and habitats, and fishing basics. All participants will be required to wear a safety flotation device while near all water. The Fishing Instructor will be responsible for modeling proper fishing etiquette and water safety at all times. KNOW HOW: The incumbent must have experience and working knowledge of fishing. In addition to knowing how to swim, the ideal candidate also possesses strong verbal, critical thinking and water safety skills. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Assist or teach portions of the curriculum prescribed by the department; 2. Be able to effectively communicate with students of all ages using proper grammar and terminology, along with a variety of effective teaching methods to stimulate students; 3. Follow and design subject lesson plans with the ability to use supplemental material; 4. Be able to use teaching aids and equipment effectively; 5. Maintain student discipline within the classroom and working environments; 6. Supervise students during the fishing experience; 7. Display ethical attitudes and behaviors; 8. Maintain certification by (a) keeping informed about program changes; (b) teaching classes; (c) attending instructor training workshops. PREFERRED QUALITICATIONS: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7.

An instructor must be 18 years of age or older. An instructor should be able to speak in front of student groups with poise, confidence, and sincerity. An instructor must possess an openness and willingness to learn and improve teaching skills. An instructor should have knowledge and experience in fishing and other related outdoor activities. EFFECT ON-END RESULTS: The end result of a successful performance by the Fishing Instructor will be an increased knowledge of fishing basics for program participants. The goal is for the Fishing Instructor to cohesively design and implement fishing lessons and participants to learn how to independently and successfully catch fish. Employee: Date:
