Race 1 - 2:20pm. THE BETFRED 'SUPPORTS JACK BERRY HOUSE' HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 2)

The Veterinary Officer reported that a random search of the kit bag of an employee of Scott Dixon, the trainer of DARK SHOT, revealed a tube of Nutrilyte Gold Gel – an electrolyte, glucose, glycerine paste. The trainer, the Veterinary Officer, an Equine Welfare Integrity Officer and a Stable Inspecting Officer were interviewed. The trainer’s explanation that the substance was unopened and had not been used was noted. Being satisfied that the gelding had received only normal food and water by mouth on the day of racing, the Stewards allowed DARK SHOT to run and the gelding was routine tested. They further confiscated the substance and informed Dixon that it may be tested and referred the matter to the Head Office of the British Horseracing Authority. The Starter reported that GRACIOUS JOHN (IRE) was the subject of a third criteria failure. David Evans was informed that the gelding could not run until the day after passing a stalls test.

CARLTON FRANKIE, placed fourth, was given permission not to enter the Winner’s Enclosure to be unsaddled, having unseated its rider after the line, and cantered loose for a short time. Following the race, John Egan reported that ROYAL BRAVE (IRE), unplaced, slipped leaving the stalls. Race 2 - 2:55pm. THE BETFRED MIDDLETON STAKES (CLASS 1) (Group 2)

Approximately 2 furlongs out, HORSEPLAY, placed second, shifted right at the same time as SMART CALL (SAF), placed third, edged slightly left and in doing so caused TURRET ROCKS (IRE), placed fourth, to be eased slightly but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of HORSEPLAY or SMART CALL (SAF). Race 3 - 3:30pm. THE BETFRED DANTE STAKES (CLASS 1) (Group 2)

Permission was given for NORDIC LIGHTS to wear a hood in the Parade Ring. Race 4 - 4:05pm. THE BETFRED TV HAMBLETON HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 2)

Approaching the final furlong, the winner, AFAAK, hung quickly left as the rider pulled his whip through to correct the colt hanging left giving a slight bump to LOVE DREAMS (IRE), placed second, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of AFAAK. Race 5 - 4:35pm. THE BRITISH STALLION STUDS EBF WESTOW STAKES (CLASS 1) (Listed Race)

Permission was given for MAIN DESIRE (IRE) and ROCK ON BAILEYS (IRE) to wear a hood in the parade ring. Race 6 - 5:05pm. THE STRATFORD PLACE STUD BREEDS GROUP WINNERS ebfstallions.com MAIDEN STAKES (CLASS 2) (PLUS 10 RACE)

An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference inside the final furlong when the winner I AM A DREAMER, ridden by P.J. McDonald, interfered with KESSAAR (IRE), placed second, ridden by Frankie Dettori, which in turn caused interference to TRUE BELIEF (IRE), placed fourth, ridden by William Buick. The Stewards considered that the interference had not improved the placing of I AM A DREAMER as the winner was in front at the time of the interference and the momentum lost by KESSAAR (IRE) was considered to be less than the winning margin of ½ a length. McDonald was suspended for 2 days for careless riding as he had been slow to correct his mount drifting left and bumping KESSAAR (IRE) briefly into the path of TRUE BELIEF (IRE) causing Buick to take a slight check. Race 7 - 5:35pm. THE INVESTEC WEALTH HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 3)

Permission was given for GRACELAND (FR) and BLUE HUSSAR (IRE) to wear a hood in the parade ring. Paul Hanagan, the rider of DENMEAD, placed second, was suspended for 2 days for using his whip above the permitted level from 2 furlongs out. Approaching the final furlong, the winner, WAITING FOR RICHIE, shifted quickly right taking DENMEAD, placed second, off its intended line, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of WAITING FOR RICHIE. Following the race, David Allan reported that CLAUDIO MONTEVERDI (IRE), unplaced, hung left and Daniel Tudhope reported that GRACELAND (FR), placed fourth, was denied a clear run from approximately 3 furlongs out on 2 separate occasions. The Veterinary Officer reported that LE MAITRE CHAT (USA), unplaced, lost its right fore shoe.
