Guide to understanding your excess calculation Sample:

Building repair value – This is the sum of CHRP repair costs paid by EQC to supplier(s) for the repair of the building, plus any cash payments made by EQC to the customer for the repair of the same building. Building repair value across the claims – EQC insurance cover begins afresh after each earthquake event. Based on the best available information, EQC needs to determine in which events the building most likely suffered damage in order to work out which costs to cover. Value of your contents settlement – This is the amount EQC paid for the damage to the contents in the same property and caused by the same earthquake event.

Building claim with damage – Excess is calculated only for those lodged building claims that are valid and can be attributed to an earthquake event that caused damage to the building. Damage location – This is the location of the building that was repaired through the Canterbury Home Repair Programme.

Value for excess calculation – This is the sum of your building repair and contents settlement. Excess – This is the excess amount based on the value used for excess calculation. Excess previously deducted – For excess purposes EQC treats building and contents damage as part of the same claim if the contents are in the same building and the damage is caused by the same earthquake event. The value provided here is the excess that EQC deducted from an earlier payment for damage.
