YOUTH AND FAMILY PROGRAM COORDINATOR Pay Grade: 9 (Exempt) Schedule: Full time, one evening a week (Monday) and one weekend day per month The Youth & Family Program Coordinator works in collaboration with, and under the supervision of, the Learning Experiences Manager to coordinate programs and large-scale learning initiatives for children birth through grade 5 and their families in the Skokie community. This coordinator collaborates with colleagues from different departments, including Youth Services and Community Engagement, to develop and execute a variety of learning experiences for youth, provide information services for youth and young adults, and facilitate learning opportunities and resources for youth and their caregivers. Minimum Qualifications: (education, experience, and certifications) • • • •

MLS degree from an ALA-accredited library school or relevant experience and study 2-3 years of library- or education-related experience Experience designing and implementing programs for youth Knowledge of childhood development

Essential Functions: • • • • • • • • • • • • •

Coordinates a variety of programs and learning opportunities for children and families including events prepared by multiple staff Develops and executes library programming for children and families in areas of need (e.g., storytimes, STEAM programs, etc.) Collaborates extensively with staff in other departments to develop programs, work on strategic objectives, and manage grant initiatives Assesses learning outcomes for targeted youth programs Assists with activities and interactions in experiential learning spaces, including the BOOMbox (an all-ages STEAM space) and the Lab (a youth computer lab) Engages with community through special projects involving library promotion and outreach activities in areas of speciality (e.g., Festival of Cultures) Coordinates content about youth programming for the library’s promotional materials and online presences Explains, demonstrates, and assists customers in choosing library materials and in the use of electronic resources Collects and analyzes data and statistics, prepares reports for management review, and makes data-driven decisions Staffs public service points, including the Youth Services Desk and the Call Center Serves as Librarian in Charge Maintains current knowledge of library and other relevant fields Regular and punctual attendance

Ability to perform office-related functions including extended concentration on a computer and typing capability Work may include prolonged sitting, standing, stooping, bending, lifting/moving materials, getting down on the floor, as well as near constant computer use. Manual dexterity, clear speech, hearing acuity, and correctable vision needed Noise level is generally moderate Scheduling may require availability during any library operating hours, including days, evenings, weekends, and occasionally when the library is closed. Although a weekly schedule is established, the needs of the library may require scheduling changes and flexibility. Employee required to park in designated area
