PRESS RELEASE Bonn, June 5th, 2014

Youth Climate Action: Climate Summit 2014 On 5 June 2014 at the UNFCCC Intersessional in Bonn, Germany, Youth Climate Action is officially announcing its project to empower youth participation around the Climate Summit and beyond. Background: The Climate Summit 2014 offers a unique opportunity for Civil Society to pressure world leaders into much-needed climate action, in the run up to a binding Global Treaty, to be agreed in Paris in 2015. As young people, we believe we should actively participate towards the Climate Summit. We are the generation that is going to be most affected by climate change, and we have the energy, enthusiasm and ideas to inspire ambition for climate action.

Youth Climate Action: Who are we? Youth Climate Action is a group of volunteers from across the world who have worked within and around international climate negotiations in the past, who see the potential the Climate Summit brings in terms of youth participation. We are currently organising different projects across the world that will encourage youth participation around the Climate Summit and international climate negotiations.

The project aims are to: ● ● ●

INSPIRE by highlighting, sharing and promoting ambitious action led by young people on the ground to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and strengthen climate resilience, EMPOWER young people across the world into making meaningful and impactful contributions to the United Nations Secretary-General’s Climate Summit 2014, MOBILIZE young people to pressure their governments to achieve an ambitious, just, global legally-binding climate change agreement in 2015 through participation at the Summit itself and through an online, virtual platform showcasing the work of young people tackling climate change across the world.

Youth Climate Action: What’s happening? On 5 June 2014 at the UNFCCC Intersessional in Bonn, Germany, Youth Climate Action is officially announcing its project to empower youth participation around the Climate Summit and beyond. The project is split into three main areas: 1. Our online web platform showcasing international youth projects and pledges 2. Participation at the Climate Summit itself 3. Participation and mobilisation outside and beyond the Climate Summit > The Web Platform: Showcasing Youth-Led Action on Climate Change, and Presenting Youth-Led Pledges

Our web platform will launch to the public on the 23rd August - exactly one month before the Climate Summit. It will be a space to: ●

highlight youth-led projects, events and activities that are in some way tackling climate change. These will be presented digitally, using either videos, blogs or audio podcasts.

present youth pledges on tackling climate change - inspiring world leaders to come up with their own ambitious climate change pledges in the run-up to the Global Treaty to be negotiated in 2015.

> Youth Participation at the Climate Summit Youth Climate Action is calling for physical participation at the Climate Summit. In particular, we would like to give the opportunity for a young person from the Global South to attend the Summit in New York - to give a meaningful intervention on behalf of youth and future generations. We would like to see our web platform centrally showcased during the Climate Summit, highlighting the vast amount of work that young people are doing to tackle climate change in their own countries. > Mobilisation outside and beyond the Climate Summit: #volveremos! We will be joining the rest of Civil Society outside the Summit, calling on urgent climate action through demonstrations, events and actions. We are working with the rest of Civil Society to build a strong, diverse and committed climate justice movement towards COP21. We believe our web platform, our physical participation inside and outside the Summit, and our continuous youth actions and pledges around the world will lay the foundations for concerted and effective action beyond the Global Treaty and international climate negotiations. We return in the spirit of #volveremos - united, strong and ready to lead by example.
