Project Description: Though it was widely recognized that sex education is important for children and youth, youth in Thailand receive limited sex education from high school. Sex education still remains a sensitive and controversial issue. Thai youth are overloaded with information and sexual socialization from social media and the Internet. The project goal is to increase sexual health knowledge of youth in universities and colleges in the Northeastern region of Thailand. Using a peer education model, the outreach worker will work with youth leaders to deliver healthy sexuality workshops that are appropriate to the need of youth. Position Description: The intern will:      

Outreach to college and university students in Kohn Kaen province Develop Peer Educators’ Training curriculum for TNAF Organize a one day training for 6-8 university students to be peer educators Design and organize 4 sexual health workshops for male and female university students Work with TNAF staff team to organize a national youth summer camp Maintain statistics for project evaluation and write project report

Qualifications:           

Post secondary education, preferable in either child and youth care, social science, health promotion, nursing, social work, or International development Knowledge, interest, in issues of HIV/AIDS/STIs, and healthy sexuality Has Interest in community development especially with children and youth Basic knowledge and skills in conducting sexual health workshops Basic knowledge and/or skills in project evaluation Good communication and writing skills in English Ability to prioritize, delegate, and handle multiple tasks MS office skills Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple assignments Ability to work in a cross-cultural environment Some experience in organizing children’s camp would be an asset



Speak Thai or one of the East or Southeast Asian languages would be an asset

Eligibility Criteria: To be eligible for the International Youth Internship Program, you must:   

 

be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident be legally entitled to work in Canada be a post-secondary graduate—graduate of a degree or diploma program from a university, college, post-secondary school of technology, post-secondary institute or a CEGEP (collège d'enseignement général et professionnel) be between the ages of 19 and 30 have not previously participated in an internship within DFATD's IYIP initiative
