Buffalo State Head Coach Howlett completed his first season as the Bengals’ head coach in 2013, leading the team to the conference playoffs and was named the SUNYAC Coach of the Year. Prior to coming to Buffalo State, he spent three seasons as the head coach at SUNY Canton, leading a program in transition from NAIA to NCAA Division III. He mentored the Kangaroos to 26 victories in three seasons and successfully recruited 24 new players in his first year on the job.

Thomas Karanas

Buffalo State Assistant Coach Karanas joined the Bengals’ coaching staff in 2013. A four-year player with the Bengals from 2008-11, he captained the team during his junior and senior seasons. He was a Buffalo State Scholar-Athlete, a two-time member of the All-SUNYAC All-Academic Team and Commissioner’s List, and was voted team MVP as a freshman. A native of Tonawanda, N.Y., he completed his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and is currently pursuing his master’s degree at Buffalo State.

Howlett was a Youth Trainee at AFC Bournemouth in the English second division, where he was named player of the year in 2004. Howlett played two seasons at Roberts Wesleyan and two years at Judson University (Ill.) and was an NAIA All-American at both institutions. He helped lead Judson to two Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference titles, two Region VII championships and two berths in the NAIA national tournament.

Howlett served three seasons as an assistant coach at Nazareth College and was the Director of Coaching for Doug Miller Soccer in Rochester. He was also the head coach of the Rochester Ravens FC, a professional women’s team in the USL W-League, and coached the New York State West Olympic Development Program girls’ team from 2009-2011.

Camp Philosophy

Dates – July 21 - 25 Time – 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Location – Coyer Field at Buffalo State Ages – Boys/Girls ages 8-16

This camp is for both the experienced and beginner soccer player. Players will be divided into different groups based on their age and skill level. There will be several experienced coaches who are involved and enthusiastic about the game, as well as current Buffalo State soccer players! The camp will focus on technical ability as well as provide instruction as to off the ball responsibilities. The camp is designed to be a fun experience for the players while helping them improve their game!
