What this document is
Oracle's data sheet for the Exadata Database Machine X6-2 describes the hardware and software design of the X6-2 generation of its engineered database systems, which combine database servers, storage servers and an InfiniBand network fabric that Oracle pre-configures and pre-tests before shipping. The stated purpose of this integration is to remove the weeks or months of manual tuning that setting up an equivalent system from separate components would typically require.
The sheet describes two storage server options available for the X6-2: a High Capacity configuration combining flash cache with high-capacity spinning disks, and an Extreme Flash configuration built entirely from flash storage, letting customers weigh cost against performance depending on their workload.
Exadata X6-2 was positioned for online transaction processing, data warehousing and in-memory analytics workloads, and could be deployed either on a customer's own premises or on Oracle's public cloud. Oracle has since released newer Exadata generations, and archives its older data sheets, including the X6-2 sheet, on its Exadata data sheet archive page rather than its current product pages.
