What this document is
The Higher Human Biology Course Specification is published by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) for Human Biology at Higher level within Scotland's National Qualifications framework, a subject separate from general Biology that focuses specifically on human physiology, genetics and health. The specification sets out the course's aims, its component units, and how those units combine with external assessment into a final grade.
Higher Human Biology is commonly taken by students considering further study or careers in medicine, nursing and other health-related fields, and Scottish universities frequently list it as an accepted science qualification for related degree entry alongside or instead of general Biology. As with SQA's other subject documents, the specification is periodically revised, so the content and assessment weighting of an older copy may not match the current edition.
SQA maintains a Human Biology subject overview page separate from its general Biology page, covering the current course specification and related assessment-support material.
