What this document is
The National 4 Chemistry Course Specification, published under course code C713 74, sets out the Scottish Qualifications Authority's (SQA) requirements for Chemistry at National 4 level, the tier above National 3 in SQA's National Qualifications framework. Unlike Higher and Advanced Higher, National 4 courses are assessed internally by schools rather than through an external SQA exam, so the specification's description of unit assessment standards carries particular weight for teachers setting and marking coursework.
The document defines the course's aims, its unit structure, and the standard each unit assessment must meet for a student to pass. Like SQA's other course specifications, it is revised periodically, and the course code identifies the subject and level rather than a fixed, unchanging text.
SQA's Chemistry subject overview page is the current source for National 4 course materials alongside the Higher and Advanced Higher documents, plus support material for internally assessed units.
