What this document is

The World Trade Report is the World Trade Organization's annual flagship publication, intended, in the WTO's own description, to deepen understanding of trends in trade, trade policy and the multilateral trading system. Each edition pairs a data-driven survey of the past year's trade developments with a themed set of chapters exploring one question in depth, carrying a foreword from the WTO Director-General and an executive summary for readers who will not work through the full text.

The 2023 edition, titled "Re-globalization for a Secure, Inclusive and Sustainable Future," is built around the argument that closer integration of more countries, sectors and issues into world trade can address problems such as security tensions, poverty, inequality and environmental strain more effectively than a retreat into fragmented, regional trade blocs. Its chapters work through the reshaping of global trade patterns, the link between trade and security, and trade's role in reducing poverty and cutting emissions.

Because the report is published annually under the same title, a reader working from an older reference to it should check which year's edition is meant; the WTO publishes each edition on its own site.
