Photography Policy Visitor Photography While at the Saint Louis Art Museum, visitors may be photographed by Museum photographers. These images may be used to publicize the Museum in print, online, and display materials, and may also be distributed to the media.

The Museum allows visitors to take photographs within the Museum for personal, non-commercial use. Flash photography, monopods, and tripods are not permitted.

Art objects appearing in images may be protected by copyright, publication rights, or related interests. In photographing an art object, it is the visitor’s responsibility to obtain copyright or other permissions may be required from an artist, agent, estate, or other third-party rights holder.

Photography of works on loan, or in the Main Exhibition Galleries, is not permitted.

Staged photographs with a personally hired photographer are not permitted in the Museum including, but not limited to, graduations, proms, or weddings.

Photography of the exterior of the Museum is always permitted.

Commercial Photography and Camera Crews All photography of a non-personal nature (i.e. editorial, commercial, advertisement) is prohibited without the permission of the Museum and the copyright holders of the artwork(s) in question.

Photographers not hired by the Saint Louis Art Museum must obtain permission from the Marketing and Audience Development Department to conduct any on-site photo shoot at the Museum. For media requests, please call 314.655.5493 or email [email protected].

These rules are subject to change without prior notice at the discretion of the Saint Louis Art Museum. By visiting the Museum, you agree to be bound by these terms.
